Chairman Wontumi said the NPP worked effortlessly in its quest to retain power.

However, only God knows the reason the NPP suffered the extent of defeat in both the parliamentary and presidential elections.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, programme Friday, Chairman Wontumi said the NPP will not lose hope but rather, put their house in order and come back stronger in 2028.

“I encourage everyone to be strong and learn lessons from this and everything will be alright,” he assured.

Despite its 85% target, the NPP suffered a humiliating defeat in the Ashanti Region, which is considered the party’s stronghold, in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

The party managed to obtain 1,366,800 votes, representing 63.9 percent of the 2,106,108 valid votes cast.

Additionally, it lost four constituencies to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), increasing the NDC’s seats in the region to eight.

Many have attributed the performance to apathy and lower voter turnout but the regional leadership has announced plans to probe the abysmal performance.

The laws must work; re-collation must happen – NPP  https://www.adomonline.com/the-laws-must-work-re-collation-must-happen-npp/ Fri, 20 Dec 2024 15:45:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2486153 A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated that the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to re-collate parliamentary results for some disputed constituencies must happen.

According to him, Ghana is not a banana republic and the law must therefore work.

Haruna said this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that the NPP is waiting on the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare to deploy security.

“I am not frustrated but the laws must work. The NDC have taken the laws into their hands and the security have thrown their hands in disarray.

“Somebody is put in charge of the election security taskforce. The IGP is the head and he is sleeping and snoring on his job. The court has given orders and consequential orders. So we are waiting on the IGP to deploy security. The collation must happen,” he stated.

Haruna further condemned the NDC youth who were involved in vandalizing election materials and burning pink sheets that had been securely stored in boxes, awaiting collation at various centres.

He questioned why the NDC will embark on such illegality despite their overwhelming victory in the election.

“The NPP are not cowards. We’re not afraid of them. Ghanaians have given them the power to lead so they should govern peacefully. We lost elections and came out to concede peacefully but why should the NDC go about creating chaos? What at all do they want?” he quizzed.

However, the NDC Deputy Director of IT and Elections, Dr Rashid Tanko Computer who also spoke on the same show, declared, “We won’t allow this kind of precedent to be set.”

At a news conference on Thursday, December 19, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa justified its decision and appealed to the government to offer it maximum security to complete the process.

There have been calls for the EC to allow persons in the constituencies where the results are being disputed to go to court as the law stipulates.

But the Commission insists the laid down processes for the collation and declaration were inconclusive, and therefore it is mandated to complete those processes.

Meanwhile, the High Court on Friday ordered the re-collation of the disputed results.

EC’s decision on disputed parliamentary seats apt – Haruna Mohammed https://www.adomonline.com/ecs-decision-on-disputed-parliamentary-seats-apt-haruna-mohammed/ Fri, 20 Dec 2024 13:30:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2486061 A Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has described as apt the Electoral Commission’s decision to re-collate parliamentary results for some disputed constituencies in the just-ended election.

While the Commission has been asked to allow persons in disagreement with the declarations in some nine constituencies to go to court as the law stipulates, the Commission insists the laid down processes for the collation and declaration were inconclusive, and therefore it is mandated to complete those processes.

At a news conference on Thursday, December 19, the EC justified its decision and appealed to the government to offer it maximum security to complete the process.

But speaking on Joy News’ AM Show, the Deputy NPP General Secretary condemned the actions of NDC youth who have been involved in vandalizing election materials and burning pink sheets that had been securely stored in boxes, awaiting collation at various centres.

According to Mr Mohammed, not all nine constituencies have had their results declared, as some are still in the process of collation. He explained that these areas are being disrupted by violent individuals.

“These processes are being attacked by those who seek to disrupt the integrity of the election,” he said, condemning the interference by these groups.

He noted that in constituencies where declarations had already been made, the Electoral Commission had acted upon requests from political parties, especially the NDC. He explained that members of the NDC were put in a position where they had to choose between their safety and their political positions. This, he suggested, added to the complexity of the situation.

“This is not the country that we know,” Mr Mohammed remarked, expressing concern about the unfolding events. “This is not the democracy we have all nurtured.” Despite the ongoing disturbances, he expressed confidence that the Electoral Commission’s decision was the right one to ensure that the election process remains fair and transparent.

With tensions escalating,  Mr Mohammed emphasized the need for increased security as a way to safeguard the electoral process and prevent further disruption.

He also warned that the NDC, a party he believes does not respect the rule of law or democratic values, threatens the very foundations of Ghana’s political system. “They want to destroy everything in the country,” he said.

NPP is for all of us, not in someone’s pocket – NPP Director of Finance https://www.adomonline.com/npp-is-for-all-of-us-not-in-someones-pocket-npp-director-of-finance/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 14:45:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485687 The Director of Finance and Administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), William Yamoah, has responded to critics calling for the “take back” of the party following its defeat in the 2024 General Elections.

This response follows comments by former Energy Minister and NPP stalwart, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, who called for careful planning as the party considers reforms in the aftermath of its electoral loss.

In his “taking the party back” statement, Agyarko cautioned against the over-centralization of power within the party, noting that similar reforms in 2009 led to dominance by a single individual.

Reacting to this on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, William Yamoah called for all hands on deck.

“The party is for all of us and not someone’s private property that can be taken home anytime he or she wants. How do you even justify that the party is someone’s personal property?”

He added, “Instead, anyone with new ideas and who believes they can revamp the party’s strength is highly welcome.”

Regarding calls by some members to dismiss or force the party leadership to resign, William Yamoah emphasized that this is not the right time for internal disputes.

“We can’t call for the resignation of the party leadership. This is not the first time the party has lost an election, yet no one from the leadership resigned or was sacked. This is not the time for a blame game because this is not a scandal where heads should roll.”

He continued, “However, I admit that our failure in the recent 2024 General Elections is a huge disappointment, considering the effort we invested in the campaign and the policies we adopted. But let us not blame ourselves.”

NDC’s control of major media houses gave them edge in 2024 polls – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/ndcs-control-of-major-media-houses-gave-them-edge-in-2024-polls-bawumia/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 08:56:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485475 The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has suggested that the campaign faced a significant communication disadvantage during the December 7 presidential election, largely due to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) dominance of key traditional media outlets.

Speaking to NPP communicators on Wednesday, December 18 at his residence for the first time since the December 7 election, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the party’s efforts during the campaign but noted that the media imbalance hindered their electoral strategy.

Dr. Bawumia stated that while the NPP excelled on social media and outpaced the NDC by a significant margin, the party struggled against the NDC’s ownership and influence over key media platforms.

“We dominated the NDC in social media. I mean, by far, by far, very, very clearly,” he said. “But we were working against their ownership of support from key media houses. Isn’t it, you know? That put us at a disadvantage in many ways in terms of the communication field because we had a lot of these key media houses who were not on our side.”

Despite this challenge, Dr. Bawumia praised the NPP communicators for their dedication and resilience throughout the campaign.

“You fought very hard at the time you had the opportunity,” he remarked. “I must tell you that I’m very proud of you. Very, very, very, very proud.”

Reflecting on the overall campaign, Dr. Bawumia also acknowledged the impact of the unexpected low voter turnout on the final results.

Two million NPP supporters did not turn up to vote – Kabiru Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/two-million-npp-supporters-did-not-turn-up-to-vote-kabiru-mahama/ Thu, 19 Dec 2024 07:57:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485462 Technical Advisor to the Vice President and Member of Parliament-elect for Walewale, Dr. Tiah Kabiru Mahama, has alleged that no less than two million New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters failed to vote in the 2024 election.

Speaking on JoyNews AM Show December 17, Dr. Mahama explained that the NPP’s failure to mobilise its supporters was one of the key reasons for their loss.

“In reality,” he said, “it was the NPP that handed the mandate to the NDC (National Democratic Congress) because many of our own people chose not to vote due to dissatisfaction and frustration”, he said.

Kabiru Mahama described how most of these disappointed voters didn’t see the NDC as a real alternative. “They had their problems with the NPP, but they didn’t believe the NDC was the answer,” he noted. As a result, these supporters stayed home on election day instead of casting their ballots.

He pointed out that many voters felt disconnected from both parties, which led to widespread voter apathy.

The two million votes lost by the NPP, Dr. Mahama stressed, was a critical factor in the final result.

“Despite the NPP’s attempts to engage its base, including launching the “Go TV” (Get Out the Vote) campaign, it became clear that the absence of these voters sealed the party’s fate. “We were very clear in our minds that if we were to lose, it would be because of voter apathy,” he remarked.

Kabiru Mahama further explained that although the NPP had strategies in place to increase voter turnout, the efforts were insufficient.

The party’s message failed to reach enough of its supporters, and many of them didn’t find either the NPP or the NDC appealing enough to vote for.

“Our people didn’t feel inspired to vote,” he added. This disengagement among the NPP’s base was a major contributor to the loss of nearly two million votes, which ultimately led to the party’s defeat.

The NPP’s Go TV campaign was designed to counteract this problem by encouraging supporters to get out and vote.

However, despite the clear warning signs and a focused effort to address voter apathy, the party’s failure to rally enough supporters was a significant setback. The NPP’s leaders recognised early on that the election could be lost due to a low voter turnout, but the party was unable to overcome the lack of enthusiasm among its core supporters. he said.

“The more we could get our people to vote, the greater our chances of winning,” he said.

Retain Afenyo-Markin as NPP leader, he has experience – Joe Wise https://www.adomonline.com/retain-afenyo-markin-as-npp-leader-he-has-experience-joe-wise/ Wed, 18 Dec 2024 21:15:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485357 The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has called for the retention of Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in the next Parliament.

Mr Osei-Owusu, who is retiring at the end of his current term, emphasised the importance of longevity and experience in parliamentary leadership.

His comments come amidst intense lobbying by senior NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) seeking to secure the position of caucus leader when the 9th Parliament is inaugurated next year.

He believed for the sake of unity, the Effutu MP Afenyo-Markin must be retained.

“I strongly believe in longevity and experience. From our own actions and inactions, you can see that when Kyei [Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader] served as both Minority and Majority Leader, he stood out very clearly.

“But it didn’t happen by accident. He started as a Chief Whip and grew up to become a leader. Longevity brings experience and clarity. I would not support any request for a new person to be brought into the picture,” he said.

He further argued that there is no one within the NPP, aside from Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who possesses the necessary experience to lead the caucus as effectively as Afenyo-Markin.

“Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is leaving Parliament.  He is the only person who has some experience which will be useful going forward. So I will not recommend any other person. My view is that, let Afenyo-Markin’s continue,” he stated.

The Deputy Speaker also underscored the critical role of the caucus leader in the next Parliament, given the NPP’s reduced numbers.

Mr Osei-Owusu highlighted the need for a strong and assertive leader who can effectively represent the caucus, even though their influence on decisions will be limited due to their minority status.

“Where we are now, we [NPP] need to be combative. We can never influence decisions. We cannot change any decision, but our voices must be very loudly heard in and out of the chamber, but it requires somebody who is strong and hot-headed and willing to stand the heat,” he added.

2024 election: NPP leadership should resign or we sack them – Former MP https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-npp-leadership-should-resign-or-we-sack-them-former-mp/ Tue, 17 Dec 2024 11:36:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484700 Former New Patriotic Party(NPP) MP for Obuasi East, Edward Ennin has registered his frustration at the hierarchy of the party over their abysmal performance in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mr Ennin said he expects the leadership to resign or be sacked from office although they were duly elected to serve for a certain period.

According to him, they went into the elections with a weak campaign and did not have a proper plan but the leadership did not do enough to salvage the situation.

He made this revelation on Adom FM’s Burning Issues as he shed more light on what caused the party’s humiliating defeat.

“Looking at the disgrace our executives have brought upon us, I think they should be resigning by now, but if they fail, we can sack them from their positions and hand over the party and put proper administrative measures in place for it to look good to all,” he stated.

The tough-spoken politician noted that there was apathy among supporters following what he described as “mafia” tactics displayed during the internal elections

He added that, due process was not followed and procedures laid down by party leaders favoured some group of candidates preferred by the executives.

As a result, all candidates who lost including their supporters did not help in the campaign neither did they vote, affecting the party heavily.

When Mr Ennin was asked by show host, Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom on what can be done going forward, he said the only option is to reclaim the party from the hands of the current leaders to make it more attractive.

“The leaders of the party have created division, apathy among the party members and have lost touch with the base so it about time we sack them and reclaim the party and hand it over to people to act till we go for elections to choose new ones,” he said.

Mr Ennin further asserted that former Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong who were sacked from post in 2016 due to internal matters were better leaders than the current crop of leadership.

If Akufo-Addo truly supported Bawumia, he would have taken policy steps to back him – MP https://www.adomonline.com/if-akufo-addo-truly-supported-bawumia-he-would-have-taken-policy-steps-to-back-him-mp/ Tue, 17 Dec 2024 08:19:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484560 Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Dr Emmanuel Marfo, has expressed dissatisfaction with President Akufo-Addo’s support for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the elections.

Dr Marfo asserted that, if Akufo-Addo supported Dr. Bawumia and believed in his campaign messages, he [Akufo-Addo] would have made certain policy decisions.

‘If he truly supports Dr Bawumia, he should have taken policy steps to back him. But if the President himself doesn’t believe in Dr Bawumia’s message, why should the electorate?” he questioned.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, the lawmaker stated that the incumbent government’s policies contradicted Dr Bawumia’s campaign promises.

“Dr. Bawumia, during his campaign, clearly stated that LGBTQ+ would have no place in his administration. That was a strong message, and the timing was right for President Akufo-Addo to sign that into law when he had the opportunity.

“But that did not happen, creating the impression that the President and the Vice President were not on the same page,” he said.

This to him undermined the NPP’s efforts, citing the promise to cancel the E-levy among others.

“For someone championing digitalisation, the E-Levy was a drawback, yet the President had signed it into law. It became a nuisance for many people. What you are doing is so loud, I cannot hear what you are saying,” he stated.

These mixed signals Dr Marfo noted casts doubts on the credibility of Dr Bawumia’s promises.

‘If the government, which has the power now, cannot implement what Dr Bawumia is preaching, why should the electorate believe that he can do it when he assumes office?’ Dr Marfo quizzed.

I haven’t recovered from NPP’s defeat in 2024 election – Nana Akomea https://www.adomonline.com/i-havent-recovered-from-npps-defeat-in-2024-election-nana-akomea/ Tue, 17 Dec 2024 08:17:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484567 Vice Chairman of the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, has said he is yet to recover from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 election.

The Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation had earlier revealed the NPP foresaw the victory of former President Mahama.

However, he has indicated the NPP’s loss is his biggest disappointment.

“No, I haven’t recovered. The main reason for my struggle is the lost opportunity. I still believe Bawumia has the best ideas for turning the country around. That is my biggest disappointment,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.

The NPP was confident about retaining power with its candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in what they termed as breaking the eight agenda.

However, the expectation was cut short in both the presidential and parliamentary election.

At the end of polls and the official declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson on Monday, December 9, former President John Mahama emerged victorious.

Mahama polled 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55 percent of the vote while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 4,657,304 votes or 41.61 percent of the total votes cast.

The election turnout and the margin of victory have left the NPP seeking answers.

These reforms are aimed at reorganising the NPP’s structure and the selection of its leadership.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Mr Nyarko expressed a strong conviction that the NPP’s defeat both in the presidential and parliamentary elections was not normal.

He therefore called on the party leadership has a matter of urgency to interrogate the root cause despite the belief that the NPP suffered apathy.

The MP among other things proposed that the party must run as an organization by appointing or recruiting a top-notch secretary (administrator) to run the national secretariat with supporting staff.

Also, the NPP should abolish all internal elections except for the flagbearer race.

By this, the elected flagbearer on his own will set up officials both at the national and regional levels to assist the campaign for the general election.

“Parliamentary elections will also go through same process as the flagbearer after which the PC will appoint his or her own team to run the constituency campaign.
“The PC together with Constituency Campaign team must invite volunteers and mobilisers at every polling station or at the grassroots to lead the campaign at the polling stations with the supervision from the constituency team,” he detailed.
In essence, these proposals he emphasised if adopted will eliminate or minimise the monetization of internal elections completely.
He added that, it will also create sense of responsibility and belongingness among all party members or sympathizers within the party.

2024 election: Why I did not campaign in Dome-Kwabenya – Adwoa Safo https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-why-i-did-not-campaign-in-dome-kwabenya-adwoa-safo/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 15:17:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484368 Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, has justified why she was not involved in campaign activities in the constituency ahead of the December 7 election.

The former Minister for Gender, Women and Social Protection said she wanted to give the New Patriotic Party(NPP) candidate, Mike Ocquaye Junior the space to operate.

She recalled that after losing the primaries on January 27, she made it clear she will be more involved in the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign.

Adwoa Safo said this in an interview with journalists when Parliament resumed on Monday, December 16, 2024.

“From the moment I lost that seat in my primary, I made it clear that I would be joined in the national campaign. I was not wavering about that. Because when you have been an MP for 12 years, you still have your supporters, you still have people moving around you.

“I think that my influence is still there. And I want to give my opponent the way and the room and the space to enjoy it and to work the way he wants to work. Not the way I want the constituency to follow suit,” she explained.

Mike Ocquaye Jnr. was confident on succeeding Adwoa Safo in the ninth parliament after defeating her in the NPP primary.

But his hope was dashed as the NPP lost the Dome Kwabenya seat which is deemed its stronghold to the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

The NDC candidate, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu was declared winner amidst series of chaos at the collation centre.

She polled 51,634 votes while Mr Oquaye secured 50,477 votes.

However, Mr Ocquaye has said he will not accept the results, arguing that the declaration was invalid

We won all 12 disputed seats, EC must resume the collation of results – NPP demands https://www.adomonline.com/we-won-all-12-disputed-seats-ec-must-resume-the-collation-of-results-npp-demands/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 12:52:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484271 The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly stated its confidence in winning 12 parliamentary constituencies following the December 2024 general elections.

The constituencies in question include Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome Kwabenya, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano South West, Akwatia, Suhum, Fanteakwa North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Techiman South.

The declaration was made at a press conference held on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

The press briefing, led by the party’s Electoral and Legal Affairs Committee, addressed concerns over the collation and declaration of parliamentary election results in certain constituencies that have faced delays and related controversies.

Addressing the press, a former National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to resume the collation process without delay to ensure that the democratic will of voters is upheld.

According to him, the EC’s intervention is critical to settling any lingering uncertainties and fostering national stability.

“We implore the National Election Security Taskforce to provide adequate security to facilitate peaceful collation under a serene environment. We also urge the NDC leadership to rein in their supporters to ensure the process concludes without further disturbances,” he said.

The party indicated that their assertions of victory in the listed constituencies are based on data from polling station results, particularly the official pink sheets submitted after the polls.

“We are very certain that our parliamentary candidates in the above-mentioned constituencies won the elections. This conclusion is based on verifiable data from the pink sheets, as we have consistently demonstrated,” he stated.

Mr. Mac Manu further appealed to all stakeholders, including the EC, political parties, and security agencies, to act decisively in the interest of democracy and national peace.

He stressed the importance of respecting the expressed will of voters.

“In the interest of democracy and the peace of our dear country, we urge the EC and all stakeholders to take immediate steps to give effect to the will of voters as expressed in the December polls,” the party said.

He also slammed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for alleged interference in the collation process.

He expressed concerns about the actions of some NDC supporters, which it claimed had contributed to the delays in declaring results in these constituencies.

“We call on the NDC leadership to demonstrate responsible leadership by calling their supporters to order. This is a crucial time for our nation, and no action should undermine our democratic processes,” he reiterated.

‘Bawumia was a crowd-puller, but we failed him’ – NPP MP https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-was-a-crowd-puller-but-we-failed-him-npp-mp/ Mon, 16 Dec 2024 08:36:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2484091 The outgoing Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North has expressed profound regret over what he describes as a collective failure within the NPP to support Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s historic campaign.

Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi speaking on Joy News’ Upfront with Raymond Acquah, described Dr Bawumia’s unprecedented efforts on the campaign trail, the internal sabotage he faced, and how a lack of unity within the party led to disappointing results.

Reflecting on Dr Bawumia’s performance, Mr Appiah-Kubi was full of admiration for the Vice President’s energy and dedication.

“Since I’ve been in politics, I haven’t seen a candidate that has done this rigorous campaign, okay? Not even President J.A. Kufuor, because I was very close to him. Dr. Bawumia’s campaign was something else.”

He emphasized the extraordinary lengths Dr Bawumia went to reach voters.

“He toured the length and breadth of the country. Everywhere he was. The last place he came was in my constituency. So I asked myself, where did the crowd go? The masses that came there…because Dr. Bawumia was phenomenal.”

Despite the Vice President’s ability to attract large crowds, Mr Appiah-Kubi admitted that the efforts were undermined by ineffective grassroots organisation.

“Anytime he left, the work on the ground suffered. The people who were supposed to do the work didn’t do it. So, they disappointed him. All of us, I’m not sure we did what was right.”

Mr Appiah-Kubi dismissed any claims that others within the party deserved credit for the overwhelming support Dr Bawumia received on the trail.

“I don’t want anybody to come and claim the glory and say, ‘We brought the crowd.’ No, he himself was a crowd-puller.”

The MP also revealed that internal sabotage within the party, including in his own constituency, played a significant role in the disappointing outcome.

“In my particular case, my constituency executives were campaigning against me. My chairman, my vice chairman—my God—they were campaigning against me.”

This internal division, he argued, contributed to the party’s inability to capitalize on the momentum Dr. Bawumia had generated.

Mr Appiah-Kubi also pointed fingers at President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing him of being unresponsive to concerns raised by members of parliament.

“The blame will go, by extension, because he refused to listen to us, even when we saw reality and tried to communicate it to him. He wouldn’t take anything of that sort. He was too recalcitrant.”

He highlighted the frustrations of MPs who repeatedly sought the President’s attention to address critical issues.

“It wasn’t just one person speaking. We were doing advocacy for more than 96 members of parliament. Are you saying all of us lacked reason? We met, we had written our resolution, and we wanted him to hear it. But he wouldn’t listen to any of us.”

Mr Appiah-Kubi argued that, this disconnect between the President and the MPs marked the beginning of the party’s decline.

“We saw the rot going on, and we wanted to let him know so we could take remedial action. But he wouldn’t listen. One person’s unwillingness to act brought all of us to this situation.”

According to Mr Appiah-Kubi, the failure to address internal issues and listen to MPs’ warnings about growing discontent within the party was a major factor in their underperformance.

“The deterioration started from there. When leadership refuses to heed the voices of its members, you can’t expect success.”

In a Facebook post made on Saturday, December 14, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation wrote, “Next chapter in my life unfolding, so let’s see what He (God) has in store for me.”

In the post, the outgoing minister also thanked God for the opportunity to serve the country over the past eight years. “Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to serve,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to her constituents, saying, “Thank you, Ablekuma West!! Sayonara.” The MP emphasized that she is looking “into the future with confidence.”

Many Facebook users who reacted to the post praised her for being a good leader, with others thanking her for her contributions to the constituency and the country at large.

“Great woman by all standards. God bless you abundantly. We love you,” commented one of her followers.

Another said, “You have done your best. God bless you,” while one person urged her to “be humble in your next chapter,” describing her as an arrogant person.

The Communications Minister was defeated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo, in last Saturday’s polls.

Rev. Addo won the parliamentary election with 31,866 votes, while Mrs Owusu-Ekuful trailed with 26,575.

Miracles Aboagye blames NPP’s defeat on low turnout of member https://www.adomonline.com/miracles-aboagye-blames-npps-defeat-on-low-turnout-of-member/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 19:54:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483857 The Director of Communications for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections, Miracles Aboagye, has reiterated assertions that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general election due to low voter turnout among its members.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile a week after the general election, Aboagye explained that, based on the party’s data from previous elections, it was clear that most of their members failed to vote on December 7.

“One of the key reasons this result is as it is, according to the data, is that our people didn’t turn out to vote, and that is the fact,” he said.

He highlighted the voting statistics in various regions, stating, “The data is there. If you put emotions aside and analyse it across all the regions: In 2020, the NPP had 145,000 votes in the Ahafo region; in 2024, we had 113,000. The NDC had 116,000 in 2020 and 130,000 in 2024. In Greater Accra, the NPP had 1,253,179 votes in 2020, and the NDC had 1,326,489. But in 2024, the NPP had only 681,000, which is half of what we achieved in 2020.”

Aboagye emphasized that the loss could be attributed solely to the low turnout, with no other significant factors playing a role. He stressed that those NPP members who did not vote did not necessarily support John Mahama and the NDC.

Already, the NPP’s flagbearer and Vice President of the country, Dr Bawumia, has attributed the loss to a significant drop in the NPP’s vote share.

According to him, the NDC did not win the election outright, as their results from 2020 were almost similar to those in 2024.

“I want to encourage you all to see that we handed this election over to the NDC; they didn’t win it outright. Their numbers didn’t change from 2020. Ours have dropped by 40%, so the analysis is simple,” he stated.

He, however, noted that the NPP aims to return strongly in future elections.

NPP PCs spent an average of GH¢10m on campaigns – MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-pcs-spent-an-average-of-gh%c2%a210m-on-campaigns-mp/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 19:03:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483848 Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has revealed that New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates spent an average of GH¢10 million for their campaign activities in the 2024 election.

According to him, many candidates make these financial sacrifices to serve their constituents, only to be met with the harsh reality of defeat.

Dr Kissi revealed this on Accra-based ChannelOne TV, describing it as a painful investment as he expressed concerns over the stakes involved.

The lawmaker also expressed worry over the monetisation of politics, adding MPs and parliamentary candidates are burdened with unrealistic expectations.

“These are some of the challenges we have with our democracy. And I think that we may have to dial down. I was talking with Honourable Henry Quartey, and he felt that people were also demanding more than was doable from a lot of Ministers. But who caused it? The promises were many,” he noted.

NPP is rebuilding, and Bawumia is the right person to lead us – Miracles Aboagye https://www.adomonline.com/npp-is-rebuilding-and-bawumia-is-the-right-person-to-lead-us-miracles-aboagye/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 18:58:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483832 Miracles Dennis Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the 2024 campaign of Vice President and leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that the NPP hopes to see Dr Bawumia leading the party in the 2028 elections.

According to Aboagye, the NPP is focused on rebuilding the party, and Dr Bawumia is the ideal person to lead it in the future and help the party regain victory.

“We are really praying and hoping that he comes to lead us in rebuilding, reorganizing, reflecting, and working towards recapturing power. The party is working to rebuild,” he said.

Aboagye further emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s contributions to the party and his key roles in governance make him the only person capable of strengthening the NPP once again.

“Everybody believes that he has applied himself very well. The party, and most of us, are waiting for him to make a firm decision. The party and even the people of this country acknowledge his hard work and dedication” he added.

He revealed that, the NPP is ready to rally behind Dr Bawumia should he decide to lead the party again.

“I can tell you that the party is on standby for him to make a firm decision. Once he decides that he is going to run again, be rest assured that the party will strongly rally behind him,” Aboagye said during Saturday’s Newsfile on Joy News.

The NPP, led by Dr Bawumia in the just-ended 2024 general elections, lost power to the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the parliamentary poll, the NPP also performed poorly, securing just over 80 seats out of a total of 276 constituencies.

The NDC has already crossed 180 seats with some seats still outstanding due to disagreements. Also, the new parliament will have four independent MPs.

Bawumia has been punished for sins he didn’t commit – Miracles Aboagye https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-has-been-punished-for-sins-he-didnt-commit-miracles-aboagye/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 18:16:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483803 The spokesperson for the 2024 general election campaign of Vice President and leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Miracles Denis Aboagye, has suggested that the Vice President lost the election not for his own actions, and that he’s only a “victim of circumstances”.

According to Mr Aboagye, people recognize that Dr Bawumia lost because he was a victim of a situation, and not because he was not suitable for leadership. As a result, many have sympathized with the Vice President since last week’s polls.

“One of the things that are quite clear in these conversations is that everybody seems to sympathize with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a candidate who is a victim of circumstances,” he said.

Aboagye explained, “It’s as if sins were brought upon him, which he had no control over, at a time when he was pursuing his own mission.”

He added that Dr Bawumia now has a responsibility to reach out to the masses and explain the circumstances surrounding his defeat in the 2024 election.

“He has a responsibility at this point to reach out to these people and say, ‘I understand you have punished me for these things, but shall we have a conversation? Shall we talk to see if we can heal these wounds and find a common path forward into the future?”.

Despite the disastrous defeat in Saturday’s polls, Aboagye stated that Dr Bawumia’s qualities remain unquestionable.

“His capability, his ability, his level of innovation, and the fact that he is the leader this country needs are not in doubt. But sometimes you can find yourself in the right place at the wrong time” he noted.

“He is essentially being punished for a lot of sins he did not commit,” he emphasized regarding the Vice President’s defeat.

Out of a total of 11,191,422 valid votes cast, Dr. Bawumia of the NPP secured 4,657,304 votes, while Mr. John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) garnered 6,328,397 votes, winning by a landslide in last week’s election.

Former President John Mahama, now the incoming President, and his team have begun the transition process in preparation for him to take office on January 7, 2025, following the end of the Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led administration.

Treat 2024 elections as a referendum on Akufo-Addo’s leadership – Edem Agbana to NPP https://www.adomonline.com/treat-2024-elections-as-a-referendum-on-akufo-addos-leadership-edem-agbana-to-npp/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 09:22:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483719 Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ketu North, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to accept the results of the 2024 elections as a clear verdict on the performance of the Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking during an interview on Citi FM on Friday, Agbana emphasized that the election outcome reflected widespread dissatisfaction with the governance provided by the NPP, which ultimately led to their defeat.

According to Agbana, the election results show that the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians were unimpressed by the current administration’s performance.

“The NPP must accept that the election was a verdict on the performance of the Akufo-Addo government. The verdict is that the majority of Ghanaians are not impressed with the kind of governance that the NPP provided,” he stated.

He also noted that the desire for change in leadership was a key factor in the election, pointing to the fact that even constituencies traditionally regarded as NPP strongholds had been won by the opposition.

Mr Agbana further highlighted that the results vindicated President Mahama’s focus on the economy during his campaign.

“The verdict is that President Mahama has been vindicated when he kept saying on the campaign platforms that it is about the economy,” Mr Agbana said.

He explained that the economic concerns voiced by Ghanaians were at the heart of the election, with many citizens seeking improvements in their living conditions.

Reflecting on his campaign experiences, Mr Agbana shared that during their visits to communities across the country, many Ghanaians expressed frustration with the surge in food prices and the unfavourable exchange rate.

“The people wanted improvements in their living conditions. People were complaining about the surge in food prices, people were complaining about the exchange rate,” he added. These concerns, Mr Agbana argued, played a significant role in the electoral outcome.

I don’t think Akufo-Addo should be blamed for NPP’s defeat – Kennedy Nyarko [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/i-dont-think-akufo-addo-should-be-blamed-for-npps-defeat-kennedy-nyarko-audio/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 09:21:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483713 Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko has fought off assertions that President Akufo-Addo should be blamed for the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 election.

Mr Nyarko has said he disagrees with such a school of thought, stating that Akufo-Addo was not solely responsible for governance.

Following the NPP’s humiliating defeat in the just-ended parliamentary and presidential election, Akufo-Addo has been blamed for the outcome.

Many have opined that the 2024 election was a punishment from Ghanaians against the Akufo-Addo-led government.

However, in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the lawmaker acknowledged there were shortfalls, but all the blame cannot be placed on Akufo-Addo’s doorstep.

“He was not the only person running the government so do you think he will wish bad for his people. As a president, the interest of the nation is a priority to him.

“He takes advice from the people around him. I think if Akufo-Addo didn’t have the interest at heart, he would have been adamant about a lot of things look at the interventions he rolled out during the Covid-19 pandemic. The intention of the government is to protect lives and properties,” he explained.

He added that the defeat should be a lesson for the NPP going forward.

Reflecting on the calls for the dismissal of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, the lawmaker noted it was in good faith without any ill motive.

The disgruntled lawmaker cited Free Senior High School (SHS) graduates and others who have also been gainfully employed.

Mr Nyarko expressed these concerns in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

Spiritual factors caused NPP’s defeat; it must be interrogated – MP [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/spiritual-factors-caused-npps-defeat-it-must-be-interrogated-mp-video/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 18:42:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483572 The New Patriotic Party(NPP) Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has expressed pain over their defeat in the 2024 election.

Mr Nyarko has said the outcome of the election is abnormal and the NPP must seek answers.

He said this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, suggesting the NPP shouldn’t mind going spiritual in its quest to find answers.

The legislator acknowledged there was a low voter turnout and apathy just like in previous elections but the incident in 2024 is rare.

“I don’t see this outcome to be normal and it must be interrogated. I don’t see it to be too physical. It will be difficult for the same trend to be recovered in all 276 constituencies. Going into an election is not just about campaigns but you pray and do all what needs to be done,” he said.

According to him, if it was just for campaign activities, none of the candidates could match the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“He engaged the youth, market women and touched base with the people not even President Akufo-Addo embarked on such campaigns in the past. Not even Mahama campaigned like Bawumia. Some of the prophets even spoke of so many spiritual factors ahead of the election,” he added.

NPP’s Appiah Kubi opens up about recovery from ‘poisoning’ after leading #KenMustGo campaign https://www.adomonline.com/npps-appiah-kubi-opens-up-about-recovery-from-poisoning-after-leading-kenmustgo-campaign/ Fri, 13 Dec 2024 15:31:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483535 The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi has recounted the severe consequences he faced after championing a bold stance against a member of his own party.

He said this move nearly cost him his life.

The outgoing legislator was a leading figure in the #KenMustGo campaign, which called for the resignation of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta amidst Ghana’s economic challenges.

In an interview on JoyNews’ Upfront, Mr Appiah-Kubi revealed that his involvement in the campaign, alongside some 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, subjected him to “punishment,” including an alleged poisoning incident.

He detailed the ordeal, describing attempts by certain individuals to transfer him from the hospital where he was receiving treatment to Accra, a move his wife vehemently opposed, ensuring his safety.

“My own government had pursued me in diverse ways after our advocacy, and that is for a fact. And, let me put it on record today that even my life, at some point, was in danger and I have suffered some ailment through the period, got treated, was fortunate, and I thank God that I’m still alive.

The MP’s disclosure sheds light on the personal risks and political fallout faced by those who challenge party leadership.

“Some people talk about it in the press, somehow exaggerated, but I suffered pain, I got treated over time, and I got healed by a miracle of God. So, I have a history and I’m very careful now. I got careless just over a short period of time but it won’t happen again because I’m more careful now. But I also thank the American institutions for providing me with some level of security support,” he stated.

He further explained that “there were attempts to lift me out of that hospital and bring me to Accra, but we were warned that I should not use that medium of travel to come to Accra, so, my wife decided that.”

“And at the time, I couldn’t take care of myself because I wasn’t that conscious to take care of myself, but then my wife refused the offer. So, I did not come and so I stayed there for some seven days and somehow, God works miraculously, and I don’t know how I came out.”

Mr Appiah-Kubi stated that his doctor had told him that he had suffered from poisoning adding that he has since been more alert.

“Well, I was told that I had some poisoning… when you attempt to attack people’s integrity, it’s a dangerous enterprise. So, you’d have to be careful, and I’ve always been careful. If you ask my PA, he tells you that I don’t even eat from outside. It was just on the occasion that I did once,” he added.

Mr Appiah Kubi has blamed President Akufo-Addo’s recalcitrant posture for the party’s defeat at the polls.

I cannot explain the shock – NPP Secretary on election defeat [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/i-cannot-explain-the-shock-npp-secretary-on-election-defeat-listen/ Thu, 12 Dec 2024 17:50:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483098 The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Parker Odarlai, expressed his shock about the election results.

According to him, the defeat was a significant surprise to him.

“The shock I have now, I cannot explain. The campaign we ran was massive compared to other elections” Mr. Odarlai said.

However, he mentioned that the response from the people was not encouraging.

“People were not even happy whenever we went out, and the response we were expecting, we didn’t get it,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

Mr. Odarlai acknowledged that, many within the party were dissatisfied, insisting that the NPP was fully engaged in the campaign.

He said during their interactions with the youth, issues such as betting taxes and the E-Levy were frequently raised.

“We all have something to say because we are not happy, but we should tread cautiously. We were on top of the work. The youth talked about betting tax, e-levy, and all the feedback when we went out to campaign,” he said.

The NPP Regional Secretary expressed frustration over some party members blaming the party leadership for the results.

“I wonder why some of them are blaming the party and the regional secretary, who is even struggling, as it was a government issue,” he explained.

Despite the challenges, Mr. Odarlai reiterated that the NPP did everything in their power to retain power.

“Whatever we had to do to keep the NPP in power, we did it, but it just didn’t work. We won’t allow anyone among us to incite them and blame me,” he declared.

Reflecting on the outcome, he stated, “We have learned our lessons, and we will reflect, rebuild, and bounce back.”

Although the EC has yet to declare the final results, provisional results from various polling stations have projected John Mahama of the NDC as the winner of the presidential elections.

NDC rejects EC’s declaration of Akwatia seat in favour of NPP https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-rejects-ecs-declaration-of-akwatia-seat-in-favour-of-npp/ Thu, 12 Dec 2024 16:20:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483059 Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party will not accept the declaration of Ernest Yaw Kumi as the MP-elect for the Akwatia constituency in the Eastern Region.

On Thursday, December 12, the Electoral Commission (EC) moved the collation of disputed results in some constituencies in the Eastern Region to the Police Training School in Tesano, Greater Accra, to avoid the chaos witnessed in other constituencies.

After the re-collation at the Police Training School, the returning officer declared Mr. Kumi, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, as the winner.

However, Dr. Otokunor disagreed with the declaration, citing what he described as inconsistencies with the results on the pink sheet.

He claimed that the polling station agents for the NPP candidate did not have an original pink sheet.

“They don’t have a pink sheet at all; they have photocopies of what is considered the pink sheet,” he told Joy News’ James Avedzi.

Dr. Otokunor further explained that even with the photocopied pink sheets, the NDC had no objections until they discovered that the numbers on their pink sheet did not match those of the NPP. He also claimed that the EC had collated the results in the absence of the NDC team.

“Unfortunately for Akwatia, our people ran a bit late, and they had to continue despite our objections. I called Jean Mensa and asked her to stop the process and give us two hours to arrive at the venue, but she refused,” he claimed. “She actually said she would engage with the Commission and get back to me. When she called back, they claimed they had finished and had declared the results,” he added.

For Dr. Otokunor, the declaration of Mr. Kumi as the MP for the area is “illegal, unfounded, and non-existent. Akwatia is still standing,” he argued.

He called for a “proper” collation and a “proper declaration” for the Akwatia seat.

The results from three constituencies in the Eastern Region have been disputed since Saturday, and Dr. Otokunor remains optimistic that the NDC will win these seats.

According to the available parliamentary results, the NPP has secured 77 seats, the NDC has secured 185, and there are three independent MPs-elect, while other seats are still outstanding due to disputes.

Speaking to Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Mr. Awuku admitted that the party did not anticipate losing by such a significant margin.

“We didn’t expect to lose, especially by this margin, however, we must face reality and not live in denial” he said.

While expressing mixed feelings about his own victory, Mr. Awuku stressed the need for the NPP to rise to the occasion and reorganize itself for the future.

“Although I am going to Parliament, I am not happy about these developments. But this is the time to work hard with the majority and support the leadership of the party to bounce back. Ghanaians may give us the nod again if we organize ourselves very well,” he stated.

He encouraged party members not to dwell on their disappointment for too long, adding that resilience is the hallmark of the NPP.

“It’s okay to feel moody for a while, but we must keep our eyes on the ball. The NPP is a party of resilience and courage. We have done it before, and we can do it again,” he declared.

Mr. Awuku also stressed the importance of mobilising the youth to strengthen the party’s base. “We need aggressive mobilisation of young people. This is the time to avail ourselves and support the party.”

Mr. Awuku also extended his congratulations to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their victory.

“We congratulate the NDC and wish them well in leading the country. We won’t wish them bad; instead, we’ll pray for their success,” he said.

He also commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, for conceding defeat early.

“Dr. Bawumia did the honourable thing by conceding early. That shows true leadership,” Mr. Awuku remarked.

Going forward, the NLA boss urged party members to take their defeat as a lesson and work towards reclaiming their position as Ghana’s ruling party.

EC declares Ernest Kumi MP-elect for Akwatia amid controversy  https://www.adomonline.com/ec-declares-ernest-kumi-mp-elect-for-akwatia-amid-controversy/ Thu, 12 Dec 2024 14:24:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2482966 The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared Ernest Kumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Member of Parliament-elect for Akwatia, following a prolonged and contentious electoral process.

Ernest Kumi garnered 19,269 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Henry Yiadom Boakye had 17,206 votes.

This declaration took place at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, after several unsuccessful attempts to finalize the results in the Eastern Region.

The routine results declaration was marred by disputes, delays, and accusations from both political parties.

Akwatia was one of four constituencies, along with Suhum, Nsawam, and Fanteakwa North, whose results were moved to the National Police Training School for final re-collation.

This decision was made due to persistent logistical challenges and resistance during the initial collation attempts in the Eastern Region.

The relocation to Tesano was prompted by rising tensions and allegations of irregularities in the earlier stages of the collation process.

Representatives from both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were present at the Tesano venue, where the EC worked to maintain a neutral and secure environment for the final count.

The remaining outstanding constituencies are yet to be declared.

Suspend transition process – Annoh-Dompreh to Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/suspend-transition-process-annoh-dompreh-to-akufo-addo/ Wed, 11 Dec 2024 14:18:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2482418 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate for Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to suspend the ongoing transition process.

Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, December 11 met with President-elect John Mahama at the Jubilee House to commence the transition process.

However, the process according to him must be on hold until all disputed seats in the just-ended election are resolved.

The Majority Chief Whip made the appeal while addressing NPP supporters as his seat among others is still being contended.

Nsawam-Adoagyiri is one of the many constituencies whose collation of results in the December 7 elections was marred with violence.

“The President has initiated the transition process, but we plead with you to suspend it until the Electoral Commission officially declares the results for the four constituencies.

“The transition must be halted immediately until all disputed seats are resolved. Until then, no transition,” he appealed.

He added that, these constituencies were won by the NPP in the keen contest but there are  attempts to challenge the outcomes.

He asserted that if Akufo-Addo does not suspend the process, it could create an impression of neglecting the NPP’s interest.

New Patriotic Party(NPP) communicator, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, has apologised to Ghanaians over his bold declaration to set himself ablaze if John Dramani Mahama wins the 2024 election.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday, Mr Gyewu-Appiah stated he did not think any Ghanaian would take the statement seriously, hence the apology.

“I’m sorry if Ghanaians thought I would set myself on fire. It was just a political talk and I didn’t think anyone would take it seriously,” he said.

The NPP communicator a few weeks before the 2024 election expressed confidence about its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s landslide victory.

Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah NPP Communicator

He stated the work done by the NPP would pay off as a reward for the Vice President and cast doubts on the chances of President-elect John Mahama, vowing to set himself on fire.

Following Mahama’s decisive victory with 6,328,397 votes, constituting 56.55%, many have questioned if he will put his words into action.

But Mr Gyewu-Appiah expressed regret over his actions, explaining he made the declaration after Dr. Bawumia’s victory was undermined.

“I know the work we had done and just couldn’t listen to someone downplay our chances in the election. I just needed to say something to motivate the rank and file of the party,” he added.

Full text: NPP condemns post-election violence https://www.adomonline.com/full-text-npp-condemns-post-election-violence/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 17:14:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481618 The New Patriotic Party(NPP) on Monday afternoon held a press conference expressing discontent with the violence that has erupted in parts of the country following the 2024 election.

The NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha described the acts as shameful and must be condemned beyond reasonable doubts.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to peace and vowed not to support any action that will alter the peaceful election held.

Read the full statement:

NPP will not support any attempt to alter Ghana’s peaceful parliamentary elections by NDC supporters

  • Ladies and gentlemen of the Press, Ghana on 7th December, 2024 conducted the 9th successful election under the 4th Once again, our great nation offers a beacon of hope for other African countries to follow. Ghanaians have been provided a democracy that gives hope, security, and economic stability in the region, and we must all work to uphold this legacy. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Leader and Flagbearer of the NPP, graciously conceded to John Mahama on the morning of 8th December just 14 hours after polls closed, prioritising our dear nation’s peace, security, and economic stability. This is a fact which contrasts sharply with John Mahama and the NDC’s actions taken in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
  • We commend our Leader and Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for the admirable Statesmanship shown and for putting the nation’s interests above all else. Let us all remain steadfast in promoting unity and peace as Ghana navigates this critical transition.

  • We note that despite the NPP’s deep commitment to a peaceful electoral process and transition period, the NDC is exploiting this goodwill by orchestrating chaos and igniting mayhem across the nation. We are disappointed to hear that the NDC has issued a press statement attributing acts of vandalism and looting of state properties to supporters of the NPP. We urge the Police to act swiftly in protecting and arresting the perpetuators of the ongoing acts.
  • The alarming escalation of violence being carried out by NDC supporters against Electoral Commission (EC) officials, NPP Parliamentary candidates and security personnel is unprecedented. These incidents have been recorded and have been shown on various media stations. There are videos all over and not one NPP supporter has been seen carrying out any of such dastardly acts.
  • The affected constituencies still in an embattled decision making as result of mayhem being caused by the NDC include:
  1. Dome Kwabenya
  2. Okaikwei Central
  3. Ablekuma North
  4. Tema Central
  5. Nsawam Adoagyiri
  6. Suhum
  7. Akwatia
  8. Fanteakwa North
  9. Kpandai
  • Karaga
  • Gushiegu
  • Ahafo Ano North
  • Obuasi East
  • Ahafo Ano South West
  • Techiman South
  • Damango
  • Aowin

The NDC in these constituencies have resorted to physical attacks on NPP agents, seizure and burning of ballots and pink sheets in order to destroy the very documents needed for the declaration of winners of the election in these various constituencies.

We have seen and witnessed several episodes of the alarming escalation of violence being meted out by NDC supporters through mass intimidation, threats, and physical attacks on EC officials and security personnel:

  • In the Madina Constituency, an NDC supporter stormed the NPP’s election operations centre, accusing them of ballot thumb-printing and vote manipulation.
  • In the Okaikwei North Constituency, violence erupted at Akweteyman as NDC youth, armed with machetes, attacked the NPP party office, destroying vehicles and property. The NDC youth then alleged that the NPP Parliamentary candidate had deployed thugs to disrupt the elections.
  • In the Obuasi East Constituency, NDC voters clashed with military personnel at Akapoliso in an attempt to seize their firearms.
  • In the Tolon Constituency, tensions escalated when suspected NDC supporters vandalised an NPP monitoring team’s vehicle at the Nyankpala DA polling centre.

There is no doubt now that the NDC trained and primed their supporters to cause mayhem and that they are doing what was drummed into them.

They have a quest to challenge the security forces. If the state security should react, despite the peaceful way in which the elections have taken place on 7th December and how NPP supporters have carried themselves in a peaceful manner, the NDC will then resort to accusations.

The NDC is forcefully trying to take over election declarations in the Regional EC offices. The obvious intention is mass provocation which will only result in violence, disruption of activities and a disruption of the key peace processes which we have fought so hard to protect.

NDC supporters have already gone on rampage and are looting public and private properties. In Greater Accra, in Ayawaso North Assembly freezers were seen being carried away.

In the NADMO office NDC supporters attacked officials who were at work. Constituency offices of the New Patriotic Party have been violated and destroyed.

In the Tamale, the Agric office and the school feeding warehouse has been looted.

This is exactly what the leads to electoral violence. The NDC are challenging and pushing the security forces to respond so they can quickly turn around and accuse them of intimidation and violence on their supporters.

We the NPP are calling for Action:

  1. Defending our Democracy which we have all built over the last 32 years:
The NPP will not allow the NDC to undermine Ghana’s hard-won democracy. It is our responsibility to protect every citizen of this dear nation.
  2. Demand for Law and Order:
We call on the Ghana Police Service to maintain law and order at all collation centres and protect the sanctity of the electoral process.
  3. Demand for Electoral Accountability:
We urge the Electoral Commission to ensure the swift execution of its constitutional mandate without interference or intimidation. Please get the needed documents needed to make you effectively carry out your mandate.
  4. Demand to John Mahama:
It is you, who will be responsible for Ghana’s peace, security and economic stability in a few weeks. We are therefore highly surprised and deeply disappointed that you look on whilst these incidents weakening the foundation of peace, security and economic stability to be handed to you continues and will harm the country. The NPP demands that John Mahama immediately instruct his supporters to stand down and allow the EC to do its work.

We caution you to note that continued provocations and aggression by NDC supporters may lead to uncontrollable reactions, which could jeopardise national stability.

NPP supporters have stood firm in the interest of peace and democracy, but our patience is being tested. We will firmly defend ourselves against any attack on us or our members.

We appeal to all Ghanaians to remember that we are one nation with a shared destiny. Elections are not a justification for violence or division. Let us all work together to maintain the peace and stability that have been the hallmark of our democracy.

LONG LIVE THE NPP

LONG LIVE GHANA

LONG LIVE OUR DEMOCRACY

He said the residence in the constituency has been vandalised by suspected thugs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Despite not disclosing the extent of damage and when exactly the incident happened, Mustapha said the information got to them on Monday afternoon.

He lamented that, the act was part of pockets of violence suffered by its supporters across the country following their setback in the just-ended election.

Mustapha indicated Yendi and its Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu’s residence was also under attack.

“That you have won elections so the country should flame up? We didn’t go attacking people when we won the 20116 and 2020 election. So why should the NDC subject as to this horror?” he questioned.

He called on the Police to swiftly arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book, stressing the attacks were shameful and cruel.

Don’t attack state institutions – Sammy Gyamfi tells NDC supporters https://www.adomonline.com/dont-attack-state-institutions-sammy-gyamfi-tells-ndc-supporters/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 15:36:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481566 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging its supporters to desist from attacking state institutions in the country, following the outcome of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary election.

According to the National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC has won the election, and there is no need to tarnish the victory by attacking and invading state institutions.

“There is no need to attack government institutions or vandalize any public property; there is no need for that,” Mr Gyamfi said.

He claimed that the current NPP leadership has indulged in many corrupt practices and is possibly seeking avenues to avoid accountability.

He explained that, when NDC supporters attack these state offices, the corrupt officials may use the destruction as an opportunity to escape without facing justice.

“There are many NPP supporters who want to destroy evidence of their wrongdoings and criminal conduct. Don’t give them a smooth excuse to do that,” he said.

He further urged supporters to remain calm and celebrate the victory peacefully, saying, “Please, we beg you,”.

As of Monday, December 9, barely 48 hours after the polls, some disgruntled NDC supporters invaded several state institutions, including the office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ayawaso East Municipality in Accra.

They have also allegedly invaded the Metro Mass Transport Limited yard at Kaneshie.

Some supporters have also besieged collation centres across the country, demanding a swift declaration of the parliamentary results from the just-concluded polls.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) is set to declare the results by the evening of Monday.

Being an MP is one of the most ‘useless’ jobs; some beg for money – Eugene Antwi [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/being-an-mp-is-one-of-the-most-useless-jobs-some-beg-for-money-eugene-antwi-audio/ Mon, 09 Dec 2024 13:36:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2481444 Subin Member of Parliament (MP) Eugene Arhin has said being a lawmaker is one of the most useless jobs in Ghana.

The former Works and Housing Minister’s position, he explained is due to the burdens of constituents MPs have to bore.

According to him, there are some MPs who go around parliament begging their colleagues for money to settle one problem or the other.

However, Mr Antwi in an interview on Adom FM/TV, Monday expressed gratitude to his constituents for the opportunity to serve for eight years.

“People will call you every time making one demands or another and most of them too are lies. There are MPs who don’t even take home GH₵5,000 at the end of the month because of responsibilities.

“We spend a lot and it will be worse going into opposition. There are some MPs who go about begging in parliament so people must pity us,” he stated.

Mr Antwi further stressed that the plight of MPs who live within their constituencies are even worse.

“Some people go for loans to complete certain projects and up settling their loans throughout the four years. I know a colleague MP who was not given any appointment and stays in his constituency; he wakes up every morning with people in his house but you can’t say because of these things you will stop. One time you don’t get for them, they will threaten to vote you out. It is a sacrificial job,” he added.

According to him, the media through its reportage embarked on campaigns against the NPP, affecting their electoral gains.

The former Tema East Member of Parliament (MP) made these remarks in an interview on Adom FM/TV as part of post election analysis.

“I acknowledge one or two things accounted for the defeat. Most of the media stations are in Accra so it becomes worrying when some outlets decide to criticise everything. Some media houses did not help us at all.

“Two days to election, Joy FM was reporting about galamsey amidst fierce criticisms. Indirectly, they were campaigning against the government,” he stated.

However, he noted the NPP respects the will of Ghanaians and will not give up on its break the 8 agenda and will bounce back stronger.

The NPP before the just-ended election held 14 out of the total 34 seats, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) holds 20.

The NPP Regional Chairman, Divine Agorhom was confident the party would reclaim all lost seats, setting a target of 21.

However, after the end of polls, the NPP suffered a setback, losing many of the seats it had.

Even though the Electoral Commission(EC) is yet to official declare the 2024 election results, the NDC claims to have won 30 out of the 32 seats.

The National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, at a press conference on Sunday, 8 December said the assertion is based on its internal collation of results from polling stations across the region.

He explained that, NDC polling agents had meticulously collected and submitted data, which the party believes demonstrates its dominance in the region.

This according to him was the time the call for the dismissal of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta over the mismanagement of the economy heightened.

The MP raised these concerns in a post on Facebook, emphasising Ghanaians punished the NPP government for turning a deaf ear to their plight.

He emphasized that, keeping Mr Ofori-Atta in office until February 2024 demonstrated the NPP’s disregard for its constituents.

Mr Antwi also highlighted the alarming voter apathy, citing that almost a third of registered voters six million were absent.

Meanwhile, Mr Antwi is not returning to Parliament after losing the NPP primaries on January 27, 2024.

He lost the election to first-timer, Kofi Obiri Yeboah.

Mr Antwi was one of some 98 NPP MPs who fiercely criticised and demanded the immediate removal of Mr Ofori-Atta.

NPP calls for recount in Ejura Sekyeredumase constituency https://www.adomonline.com/npp-calls-for-recount-in-ejura-sekyeredumase-constituency/ Sun, 08 Dec 2024 06:03:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480859 Sulamana Issifu, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s legal team for the Ejura Sekyeredumase Constituency in the Ashanti region, has called for a complete recount of ballot papers from all 177 polling stations.

This follows concerns raised by the NPP regarding alleged manipulation of the ballot papers and irregularities during the elections.

In a press briefing held after the elections, the legal team accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of committing serious errors. Issifu stated that ballot papers had been tainted with manipulated pink sheets.

“The elections in Ejura, which were supposed to be free and fair, have been marred by numerous mistakes, some of which the EC has admitted to. They [EC] have acknowledged that they made significant errors, and these mistakes go to the heart of the integrity of the elections,” Issifu said.

Issifu, speaking to the media, made it clear that the NPP rejects the election results in the constituency. He further revealed that the party had formally petitioned the Electoral Commission, insisting that until a full recount is conducted, they will not accept the provisional results released by the EC.

He also alleged incidents of violence and ballot snatching in areas considered strongholds of the NPP. Issifu claimed that the military had to intervene to restore order in some locations.

Furthermore, Issifu claimed that the EC had confirmed that, in some instances, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had received a score of zero, while the NPP had recorded figures.

“The EC called us a few moments ago and told us that there were places where the NDC was given zero, while some figures were recorded for the NPP. These were described as transpositional errors,” he explained.

He emphasized that, due to the alleged tampering with the pink sheets, the NPP rejected the numbers recorded on them.

Meanwhile, the NDC has rejected calls for a recount. A member of the party’s legal team, Stanley Tweneboah Kodua Gyamfi, told the press that per the laws governing the elections, recounting can only be done at the polling station and not at the collation centre.

2024 election: NDC is losing the election – Miracles Aboagye https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-ndc-is-losing-the-election-miracles-aboagye/ Sun, 08 Dec 2024 00:34:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2480787 The Spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is already losing the 2024 general election.

According to Aboagye, the polling stations have already determined the election results, and each political party has received copies of the pink sheets.

“Every political party has copies of the pink sheet, they know it, they know very well they are losing this election and that is why they will call for havoc,” he asserted.

His comments came shortly after the NDC held a press conference urging its supporters to head to collation centres across the country, advising them to remain calm and vigilant and avoid early celebrations of election results.

Mr. Aboagye expressed confidence that the NPP would emerge victorious following the Electoral Commission’s final declaration of the results. He refuted the NDC’s allegations regarding the NPP’s potential to rig the election.

He drew a parallel between the current situation and the biblical story of two women who took a dispute over a lost child to King Solomon for judgment.

“That is exactly what the NDC are doing. They know they’ve lost, they know they are nowhere near victory in this election and that is why they will irresponsibly call on their supporters to move towards the collation centres to disrupt the collation process,” he lamented.

Mr. Aboagye further challenged the NDC to explain why they were instructing their supporters to move to the collation centres if they truly believed they were on track for victory.

“Why would any political party that is very, very clear in its mind that it has won this election want to disrupt these electoral processes? We will not allow that,” he said.

In response to the NDC’s call for supporters to assist in protecting the collation centres, Aboagye urged the NPP’s supporters to do the same, asking them to help the police safeguard the EC’s operations.
