Mr Mahama argued that their attendance was crucial, given their role in ensuring national security and peace.

According to Mahama, he canceled a rally in Karaga in the Northern region to attend the peace event in Accra, only to find both the President and Vice President absent.

He stressed the importance of the President and Vice President prioritising peace efforts, particularly amid rising concerns about security.

He noted that upon inquiring about their absence, he was informed that Dr. Bawumia was attending a youth program focused on employment strategies.

“When I arrived at the event, the President was absent, same as Vice President. You’re the ones responsible for the security or the safety of the people. So, if peace talks are ongoing, it is necessary to leave everything you’re doing to join.”

Challenging the NPP’s approach to job creation, Mr Mahama pointed out that unemployment has surged from 8.4% when his administration left office to 14.7% under the current government.

He questioned Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment, highlighting unpaid allowances owed to NABCO trainees as a sign of unfulfilled promises.

Mr Mahama also contended that if job creation were a priority for the NPP, these figures should have shown marked improvement by now.

Election 2024: Akufo-Addo urges clergy to refrain from making prophecies https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-akufo-addo-urges-clergy-to-refrain-from-making-prophecies/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 14:40:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468305 President Nana Akufo-Addo has called on the clergy to exercise restraint regarding prophecies about the outcomes of the December 7 elections, encouraging respect and caution throughout the electoral period.

He urged religious leaders to guide their congregations in promoting peace and stability during this crucial time.

In remarks delivered on his behalf by Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, at the “Agent of Peace” campaign organized by the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) on Sunday, November 3, 2024, the president highlighted the importance of decorum.

He emphasized the role of the clergy in fostering a respectful and unifying environment as the country heads toward the elections.

President Akufo-Addo also cautioned political parties and religious figures against using divisive language or making premature declarations of victory.

He underscored the need for unity and warned against any rhetoric that could heighten tensions, reminding leaders of their influence on the nation’s stability. Acknowledging Ghana’s achievements as a model of democracy, he called for respectful political discourse and urged all stakeholders to avoid language that could mislead voters or incite division.

“Indeed, democracy requires more than elections, but the country cannot be democratic without holding genuine elections to elect its leaders. Elections are the basis for democratic legitimacy and are a mechanism to peacefully resolve the transfer of political power,” he stated.

“We in Ghana have grown and must learn the lessons of having peaceful elections. We must avoid the use of provocative and abusive language in our campaigning. Let us respect the electorate and not assume that one political party has already won the election when a single ballot is yet to be cast.”

“I call on all our revered members of the clergy to also put a check on those of their members who are going around prophesying winners of an election that is yet to be held,” he added.

US election 2024 results: When will we know whether Harris or Trump won? https://www.adomonline.com/us-election-2024-results-when-will-we-know-whether-harris-or-trump-won/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 09:54:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468092 Americans are voting for their next president in a general election that culminates on Tuesday 5 November.

Once polls close, depending on how close the contest is, it is possible a winner will not be projected for several hours, days or even weeks. Here’s what you need to know.

When is the 2024 presidential election result expected?

Democrat Kamala Harris, the current vice-president, and Republican Donald Trump, the former president, have been running neck-and-neck for weeks.

National and swing state polls have tightened as 5 November draws closer, so there could be very narrow margins of victory in several places, which may require votes to be recounted.

It is also possible that some results may come in more slowly this year due to changes in how individual states – including all seven swing states that will ultimately decide the race – have administered their elections since 2020.

On the other hand, vote-counting has been sped up in places like Michigan, and far fewer votes will be cast by mail this time than in the last election, which was held during the Covid pandemic.

This means there are a number of possible outcomes – a winner declared on election night, the next morning or possibly days or weeks later.

When did we get the 2020 presidential election result?

The 2020 election took place on Tuesday 3 November, but US TV networks did not declare Joe Biden the winner until late morning on Saturday 7 November.

As Americans went to bed on election night, Trump supporters felt confident victory was near but, in fact, both candidates were within reach of the 270 electoral college votes needed to become president-elect.

Though the vast majority of states called their races within a 24-hour period, a handful of key states – including Pennsylvania and Nevada – did not.

Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral votes, had however been trending toward the Democrats. On Saturday morning, a fresh batch of ballots counted from the battleground state gave networks the confidence to project that Biden would win there.

CNN was the first to announce the result, with every other TV network following suit over the next 15 minutes.

When are presidential election results usually announced?

Generally, voters have become used to the idea that they will know who the next president is going to be by the time they go to bed late on election night or at least in the early morning hours of the next day.

In 2016, for example, when Trump first won the presidency, he was declared the winner shortly before 03:00 EST (08:00 GMT) the day after the election.

In 2012, when Barack Obama secured a second term, his victory was projected before midnight on polling day itself.

But one notable recent exception was the 2000 election between George W Bush and Al Gore.

The two campaigns went to war over a tight contest in Florida, and the race was not decided until 12 December when the US Supreme Court voted to end the state’s recount process, keeping Bush in place as the certified winner and thus handing him the keys to the White House.

What are the key states to watch?

Across the country, the first polls will close at 1800 EST (2200 GMT) on Tuesday evening and the last polls will close at 0100 EST (0500 GMT) early on Wednesday.

But this race is expected to come down to results from the seven swing states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

1900 EST (2300 GMT) – Polls close in Georgia and five other states, and partially in two more states. This is also when US TV networks are likely to begin making their first calls of the night, in less competitive states like Kentucky.

1930 EST (2330 GMT) – Polls close across three states, including North Carolina, where Harris is hoping to end a string of losses for Democratic presidential candidates since 2008.

2000 EST (0000 GMT) – Polls close in Pennsylvania, 15 other states and the District of Columbia, as well as partially in Michigan and four other states.

2100 EST (0100 GMT) – All remaining polls close in Michigan. Voting will also end in Arizona, Wisconsin and 12 other states.

2200 EST (0200 GMT) – Polls close across Nevada and two other states, and partially in two others.

2024 election: Why would anybody queue to vote for Mahama? – Miracles Aboagye [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-why-would-anybody-queue-to-vote-for-mahama-miracles-aboagye-audio/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 09:45:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468075 The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, has predicted a decisive win for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the upcoming December 7 election.

With barely 33 days left, Mr. Aboagye is confident that no eligible voter has any reason to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, against the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he stated that the signals are clear that Dr. Bawumia will be the choice of Ghanaians over former President Mahama.

“The decision of Ghanaians in this election is simple. It is not that all expectations have been met, but they believe that between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Mahama, Bawumia is better. Because why would anyone go and join a queue to vote for Mahama and against Bawumia?” he quizzed.

He stated that the track record of the NPP has been unprecedented, citing road projects, free SHS, allowances for trainee nurses and teachers, and support for people who suffered job losses due to the power crisis.

“I won’t understand why anybody would vote for someone who couldn’t provide us with a constant power supply for a year.

“They will definitely vote against Mahama. The NDC’s biggest challenge was bringing back the old Mahama as a candidate. There is nowhere he will win the election,” he stated.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey fights off ‘social media MP’ tag [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/dorcas-affo-toffey-fights-off-social-media-mp-tag-audio/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 09:08:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468027 Jomoro Member of Parliament(MP), Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has fought off claims of being a social media MP due to her increasing presence.

The first-time MP has been very vibrant on social media by posting updates about her work, which ranges from community empowerment to youth apprenticeship, among other gestures that have the potential to win her votes.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, she stressed that the attacks on her social media presence do not scare her.

“The NDC-UK has supported my campaign with over 1,000 t-shirts, and how did they know about me? It is because of the good work I share on social media. When it comes to women, people look at us differently. Some male MPs are doing the same and even more than what I’m doing, but for women, they will call you names.

“You go to church and post pictures of yourself thanking God, and they will call you a slay queen,” she bemoaned.

She emphasized that social media is an effective tool that helps her connect with constituents, especially in the diaspora, to stay abreast of developments in the area.

“I am not a social media MP, but it is okay if that is what they say. However, nobody has told me that, and my people are happy with me. I see my position as MP as an opportunity to help alleviate poverty in my constituency and change the lives of people.”

“I have embarked on several infrastructural project and has even earned me the name Bridge Queen in my constituency,” she stated.

The lawmaker added, “People must know that being an MP must not be boring but you can also have fun while taking care of your constituents.”

Bawumia outlines bold plans for job creation for youth https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-outlines-bold-plans-for-job-creation-for-youth/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 07:37:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468016 On Sunday, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in an engagement with the Ghanaian youth unveiled a comprehensive vision for job creation aimed at transforming the economy.

Dr. Bawumia, during the event held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, also virtually connected with youth in all 16 regions.

In a passionate address, Bawumia emphasised his commitment to making the youth his top priority, promising to introduce bold, business-friendly policies designed to create close to four million jobs if elected on December 7, 2024.

He began his speech by reflecting on the economic challenges that Ghanaians have faced in recent years, particularly the prolonged power outages that plagued the nation during the erstwhile Mahama-led administration.

He recalled how these outages severely impacted productivity across sectors, leading to widespread job losses.

Bawumia urged the audience to consider two choices – a return to past failures or the opportunity for renewed leadership focused on progress and recovery.

He reiterated his promise to the youth from the previous year, asserting that their voices and ideas would be integral to shaping his government’s policies.

He committed to fostering a political environment where young people are actively involved in decision-making processes, empowering them to become a driving force for change in the nation.

His approach aims to address the specific needs of the youth and ensure they have a stake in the country’s future.

Central to his job creation strategy is the expansion of educational opportunities. Bawumia outlined plans to increase student accommodation in public universities, introduce scholarships for persons with disabilities, and implement a centralised application system for tertiary institutions.

He highlighted the importance of protecting and enhancing the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives, which have already led to significant increases in student enrolment and gender parity in education.

Bawumia emphasised the need to leverage public policy to stimulate economic growth. His vision includes completing the Agenda 111 hospitals to ensure that every district has access to healthcare, thereby creating thousands of jobs.

He also intends to support businesses through a “Buy Ghana First” policy, establish a Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Bank, and create Special Economic Zones in border towns to enhance economic activity and job creation.

Bawumia’s speech also addressed the agricultural sector, where he plans to implement technology and irrigation solutions for large-scale farming, prioritising food security and job creation.

He proposed the establishment of agrarian enclaves based on regional advantages alongside investments in research and development to modernise the industry.

The housing sector was another focal point of his address, with commitments to create social and affordable housing initiatives to support low-income workers.

Bawumia’s plans also extend to the mining sector, aiming to maximise the benefits of Ghana’s natural resources through environmentally sustainable practices and local ownership.

To harness the digital economy’s potential, Bawumia announced plans to collaborate with educational institutions and tech firms to create a National Robotics, Engineering, and AI Lab.

He aims to establish a Fintech Fund to support Ghanaian start-ups, eliminate import duties on mobile devices, and abolish the controversial E-Levy to encourage technological adoption and growth.

Bawumia concluded his address by reiterating his commitment to a Ghana where young people can thrive, emphasising the transformative power of technology, inclusivity, and robust policies.

His bold plan for job creation is not just an economic agenda; it is a call to action for the youth of Ghana to take charge of their future and contribute to the nation’s progress.

I know my level; it’s definitely not a clearing agent – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/i-know-my-level-its-definitely-not-a-clearing-agent-mahama-tells-akufo-addo/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 17:34:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467693 National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has hit back at President Akufo-Addo after the latter labeled him a “one-term president.”

During a tour of the Ahafo Region, President Akufo-Addo questioned Mahama’s political influence, suggesting that his lack of a second term undermines his credibility and that he shouldn’t boast of a higher “level” than others.

This exchange follows Mahama’s refusal to engage in a debate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 election.

In response, Mahama highlighted his achievements while in office and reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s progress.

Speaking at a governance forum in Accra on Thursday, Mahama remarked that his contributions to the country transcend any single term of service.

“I know my level. If someone says I have no level because I served only one term, I know my level is definitely not to be a clearing agent,” he said, alluding to perceived differences in governance approaches between himself and the current administration.

Mr. Mahama emphasized his dedication to transparency and accountability, pledging to prioritize these values if re-elected.

“This is not a quest for witch-hunting, but it is a genuine desire by Ghanaians to see public officers held to account for the public trust placed in them.

“Fighting corruption requires courage and principle. I will ensure meritorious appointments and allow systems of transparency and accountability to operate with full authority,” he asserted.

2024 election: Alan leads mammoth ‘Afrafranto Victory Walk’ in Accra https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-alan-leads-mammoth-afrafranto-victory-walk-in-accra/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 16:45:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467668 In a remarkable show of force and strength, Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change brought Accra to life as hundreds of thousands of supporters turned out for a walk ahead of election 2024 in December.

The event drew citizens from across the spectrum, with the youth leading a vibrant wave of enthusiasm and unity.

The scale of the march exceeded even the massive Kumasi walk, accentuating the unstoppable momentum of Alan’s Yellow army as they took over Ghana’s bustling capital.

From the first light of day, a seemingly endless procession of people poured into the streets, transforming Accra into a sea of bright yellow.

Every corner of the city echoed with chants, songs, and the sound of drumming, as people – young and old, students and families came together in what can only be described as a political festival.

Banners with Alan’s face and the slogan “Ase3 Ho” waved high above the crowd, as marchers energized by hope for a new Ghana captured the city’s attention at every turn.

Alan Kyerematen, who led the procession alongside his energetic running mate, KOD and other senior partners of the Afrafranto Alliance, was at the heart of it all, warmly greeting his supporters who cheered him on.

Walking shoulder-to-shoulder with the young people who have embraced his vision, Alan demonstrated his commitment to bringing them front and centre in his plans for Ghana. His Great Transformational Plan (GTP) has captured the imagination of many, particularly the youth, who see in him a leader who genuinely prioritizes their needs and dreams. “Alan is the leader we need!” a young supporter shouted as he fell at Alan’s feet, capturing the sentiments of many who feel deeply inspired by his vision.

The scale of the walk astonished bystanders who lined the streets to watch as Alan’s Yellow Army moved from neighbourhoods to major thoroughfares, filling Accra with a spirit of change and unity.

Some joined in spontaneously, drawn in by the atmosphere of hope and the electric energy of the march. “This is a new beginning for Ghana,” one old lady shouted from her balcony waving a white handkerchief, as the crowd passed by, lifting spirits and building excitement about what Alan’s leadership could bring to the country.

With this monumental gathering, Alan’s Movement for Change has set a new standard, not just for political campaigns but for how citizens envision the future of their nation.

The turnout in Accra, following the massive Kumasi march, signals a groundswell of support for Alan and his message of inclusive transformation.

As Election Day approaches, the Yellow Army’s numbers and energy continue to rise, making it clear that Alan Kyerematen is not just a candidate – he is the focal point of a nationwide call for renewal, hope, and action.

EC to reassess decision on presidential ballot printing – Dr. Bossman Asare https://www.adomonline.com/ec-to-reassess-decision-on-presidential-ballot-printing-dr-bossman-asare/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 14:50:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467613 The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will review its decision to suspend the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 presidential election next week.

The suspension followed the death of Madam Akua Donkor, the flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), on October 28, 2024.

The Commission granted the GFP 10 days to replace its flagbearer, in accordance with Article 50 (4) of the 1992 Constitution.

During a media briefing after touring three ballot printing facilities in Accra, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the EC, Dr. Bossman Asare, confirmed that the Commission would revisit the matter next week.

“As you are aware, the printing of parliamentary ballots is ongoing. We have put the presidential ballot papers on hold. It is likely that by next week, the Commission will revisit that particular issue,” he said.

The three printing houses visited were Buck Press in Ofankor, where ballot papers for the Ashanti, Savannah, Oti, and Central regions are being printed; Innolink in the North Industrial Area, responsible for ballots for the Greater Accra and North East regions; and Acts Commercials Limited in Darkuman, where ballots for Upper East, Upper West, and Western North are being produced.

The tour’s purpose was to give journalists firsthand insight into the printing process, aimed at enhancing transparency and building public trust in the electoral process.

The tour was led by the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, along with Dr. Asare.

Dr. Asare emphasised that the ballot printing process has been “transparent.” He dismissed claims that the Commission had printed more ballots than needed for the 2024 election, calling such reports a “complete lie.”

“What the EC wants you to know is that nothing is done without the knowledge, even the inputs of political parties, and you can see clearly here that not only the main political parties are represented here.

“We even have Madam Akua Donkor, who is no longer going to be a candidate; the agent is here. The independent candidates also have their agents here, as well as the other minor political parties.

“So, if you hear anyone saying that the Electoral Commission has printed more than necessary ballots, that’s a complete lie, because the parties are aware; they know the ballot statistics for each region, for each constituency,” he said.

Mr. Bano-Bioh stated that the Commission was one of the few election management institutions in the sub-region that printed its ballot papers locally, indicating the strength of its operations.

He said the Commission had nothing to hide, adding that it (the EC) was committed to a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

“We are here to let you know that printing ballots is not done in secrecy. We open up to the public for you to know that we are doing it together with the political party agents.

“At every level, there are agents, and they observe to ensure that the right thing is done. They take copies of the serial range of numbers; they take copies of the quantities being printed for each constituency, and we give them all these details at the end.

“So, printing ballots, they are with us, and they make sure that whatever we have packaged and is ready to be sent to our regions and constituencies, apart from the Electoral Commission’s seals, they also add their seals and take records of that,” he stated.

Dr. Francis Nyanin, Executive Director of Buck Press, said the company was working around the clock to ensure that it met the deadline.

Akufo-Addo’s administration has been a ‘horror movie’ – Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addos-administration-has-been-a-horror-movie-mahama/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 12:15:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467508 Former President John Mahama has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of undermining the country’s democratic since assuming power.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, his successor has subjected Ghanaians to an experience that is nothing short of a horror movie.

Speaking at a governance forum in Accra on Thursday, Mahama emphasized the economic hardships and a perceived governance crisis as evidence of this decline.

“Our democratic institutions have been put under great strain for the last eight years. All the gains we made in strengthening our public institutions since 1982 have been severely eroded,” he said.

He urged the public to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 elections for liberation.

“This horror movie Ghanaians have been subjected to for the last eight years must come to an end. The pledge to protect the public purse was just a folly promise; indeed, as some people humorously say, they have not emptied the public purse—they have stolen from it.

“The insatiable greed of appointees of this administration has not even spared the environment, including our water bodies and forest reserves,” he added.

US Election: How the economic policies of Harris and Trump differ https://www.adomonline.com/us-election-how-the-economic-policies-of-harris-and-trump-differ/ Sat, 02 Nov 2024 07:50:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467451 We heard a lot on Friday from both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on what their plans are for the US economy.

Unsurprisingly, the economy – and especially costs of living – have been key concerns for American voters this election.

But how do their plans differ? Here is a quick breakdown on what each candidate is proposing:

Democratic nominee Harris:

  • Harris has stated that her day-one priority would be to reduce food and housing costs for working families. She has planned on doing so by banning gouge-pricing on groceries, helping first-time home buyers and increasing the minimum wage
  • She has vowed to raise taxes on big businesses and Americans making $400,000 (£305,000) a year, while raising the capital gains tax slightly to 28%. Harris has also promised to expand child tax credits for families and cut taxes for small businesses
  • On trade, Harris has indicated she will have a targeted approach on taxing imports – like the current Biden-Harris tariffs on Chinese imports like electric vehicles

Republican nominee Trump:

  • Trump has also tackled high costs of living, pledging to “end inflation and make America affordable again”. Among his plans are increasing oil drilling, which he says will lower energy costs.
  • He also promised to deport migrants, which he says will ease pressure on housing, and has vowed to remove taxes on tips and social security benefits for seniors
  • He has proposed tax cuts worth trillions, including an extension of a tax cut he enacted in 2017 that mostly helped the wealthy. Trump says these taxes will be paid by higher tariffs on imports – a plan that economists have warned will add to the US ballooning deficit and that would push up prices for consumers.

NDC files new application to lift previous injunction on Amenfi Central PC https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-files-new-application-to-lift-previous-injunction-on-amenfi-central-pc/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 18:08:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467402 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken its legal battle to the Sekondi High Court, filing a new application to secure Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s place on the December 7 parliamentary ballot as its candidate for Amenfi Central.

This legal move follows the dismissal of an earlier application by an Accra High Court, in which the NDC sought to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballots and the notice of poll, in defense of Cudjoe’s eligibility.

The NDC hopes this approach will grant them the time needed to ensure Madam Cudjoe’s candidacy on the party’s ticket.

Speaking to JoyNews, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Dr Rashid Tanko Computer, stated that the party is pursuing further legal action at the Sekondi High Court to overturn the existing injunction affecting Madam Cudjoe’s candidacy.

“This is based on the ruling of the Accra High Court refusing us the injunction because of the earlier injunction which is still active and I cannot authoritatively state that we have actually filed the process as Sekondi High Court and duly serve the Electoral Commission to halt any processes,” he explained.

He added that the hearing which is set for November 7 at the Sekondi High Court, aims to vacate the injunction and pave the way for Madam Cudjoe’s picture to appear on the ballot paper.

Meanwhile, the Amenfi Central NDC have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the EC’s disqualification of their Parliamentary Candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

At a press conference addressed by Constituency Secretary, Fiifi Sangmoah, the party described the EC’s action as “undemocratic, unconstitutional, provocative, and barefacedly instigated.”

The controversy surrounds the May 13, 2023, parliamentary primaries, where Madam Gyan Cudjoe won overwhelmingly.

However, dissatisfied individuals filed a lawsuit, securing an interlocutory injunction that temporarily restrained her from holding herself out as the duly elected candidate.

The NDC’s Functional Executive Committee annulled the May 13, 2023, elections and conducted fresh primaries on September 8, 2024.

Madam Gyan Cudjoe emerged victorious once again, with the EC supervising the process.

The party argues that the September election superseded the May election, rendering the earlier contest irrelevant and reinforcing Madam Gyan Cudjoe’s legitimacy.

Despite the NDC’s arguments, the EC disqualified Madam Gyan Cudjoe, citing the interlocutory injunction tied to the annulled May 2023 election.

The party sees this decision as a gross display of incompetence and vows to fight back.

The NDC demands that the EC restore Madam Gyan Cudjoe’s name on the notice of poll and ballot papers for Amenfi Central.

”We will only accept the outcome of the December 7, 2024, elections if Madam Gyan Cudjoe remains a contender. As Fiifi Sangmoah emphasized, We will not stop until justice is done and the people’s will is restored.”

Community Mining Scheme is a failure – NDC Mining Committee https://www.adomonline.com/community-mining-scheme-is-a-failure-ndc-mining-committee/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 17:55:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467393 The Mining Committee of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) is alleging the infiltration of the Community Mining Scheme by foreign nationals defeating the purpose of establishment.

Recent visits to these sites by the committee have revealed politicisation of the scheme.
Member of the NDC Mining Committee, Michael Kwadwo Peprah explains, “the Chinese are everywhere, and they control these community mining sites.”

The NDC manifesto is promising a new order where locals will be prioritized in the small-scale mining sector.

The Small Scale and Community Mining Scheme introduced by the present NPP administration aimed at sanitizing the small-scale mining sector.

It was introduced in all of the country’s mining regions with locals being direct beneficiaries.

But some miners are alleging foreign nationals continue to play active roles under the scheme.

If the NDC is successful to win the upcoming election, there is a manifesto promise to implement policies that will ensure growth of the small-scale mining industry and ensure the protection of the environment.

The manifesto emphasized the next government will, “Promote sustainable SSM as a profitable and responsible business especially for young people by enforcing regulations and applying state-of-the-art technology, including AI, to track all excavators and geo-fence all SSM concessions in Ghana.”

The team has also bemoaned the challenges of goldsmiths and jewelry producers in these communities.

Member of the Committee, Mr. Samuel Hadjor says, “we will work with industry stakeholders to revamp the local goldsmithing and jewellery subsector to increase value addition and global competitiveness.”

The NDC team has so far visited some mining communities in Ashanti, Central and the Western Region.

They are optimistic of the party’s fortunes in mining communities.

Mahama becoming a threat to Ghana’s democracy – Minister [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-becoming-a-threat-to-ghanas-democracy-minister-audio/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 17:27:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467382 Information Minister, Fatima Abubakar has said former President John Mahama is becoming a threat to Ghana’s Judiciary and democracy.

In her view, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer gives the impression that his party must win every court case.

In this regard, if Mr. Mahama were to denigrate the judiciary, it would be in bad taste.

Fatima Abubakar made these remarks on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Friday.

“My heart aches, and I feel disappointed when he makes such comments. At this rate, I think he is becoming a threat to Ghana’s democracy. The law is such that everyone gets equal justice. You may not be happy with a court ruling, but you must take it in good faith,” she stated.

This comes after Mr. Mahama accused the Akufo-Addo administration of intentionally undermining independent institutions in Ghana, specifically mentioning the Electoral Commission (EC) and the judiciary.

Speaking at his Good Governance Forum on Thursday, Mahama expressed deep concern over the erosion of institutional integrity and the implications it has for the country’s democracy.

He emphasised that the systematic weakening of these institutions poses a serious threat to good governance and accountability.

However, Madam Abubakar has described the comments as disappointing and not worthy of a statesman and former President.

She cited Mr. Mahama’s allegation that Akufo-Addo was packing the courts with New Patriotic Party (NPP)-inclined judges.

Stating the former President was desperate for power and has decided to denigrate the court, she emphasised this is not the first time politically exposed persons have been appointed as judges.

“Judges look at the law and not political colours. The judges Mahama appointed and those he elevated to the high court” she argued.

I’ll retire you from politics – Jomoro MP to NPP PC [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/ill-retire-you-from-politics-jomoro-mp-to-npp-pc-audio/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 16:36:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467342 Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has sworn to retire former MP and New Patriotic Party(NPP) parliamentary candidate, Paul Essien from politics.

She has indicated that, given the massive infrastructural development that has taken place under her tenure, the 2024 election will be an easy victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Essien defeated former MP Samia Nkrumah to win the seat in the 2016 election. After just one term in Parliament, he lost his seat to Madam Affo-Toffey in the 2020 general election but is hopeful about making a strong comeback on December 7 to reclaim the seat.

However, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Affo-Toffey stated that her main contender stands no chance in the election.

“I will retire my opponent in politics. As a first-time MP, I am not mute; I’m effective in the constituency. Jomoro will go 100 years back if Paul Essien is re-elected. We will be dead, but he will never be elected again. This is his last time contesting; I will retire him. I’m saying it with authority,” she said.

Affo-Toffey, who has positioned herself as a champion of women’s rights and social development, declared that she stands tall in her track record in the constituency.

She promised to remain committed to providing better educational opportunities and improving infrastructure in the constituency if re-elected.

With barely 36 days until the general election, Madam Affo-Toffey faces fierce competition from Mr. Essien and Samia Nkrumah, who is also a former MP.

Speaking at a community engagement in Kenyasi No. 1 in the Asutifi North constituency, he acknowledged the economic importance of the Hwidiem-Kenyasi road to residents.

He noted that he has instructed the contractor to begin asphalting the road before the elections.

Dr. Bawumia stated that he has seen the contractor’s progress and that the asphalting machines have already arrived.

The chief, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, expressed that he and his people will continue to pray for Dr. Bawumia and his team. He lauded Dr. Bawumia for communicating in the local language and urged him to continue using this method, as it helps the Ghanaian people understand him better.

The votes have been cast spiritually; I have already won – Jomoro MP [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/the-votes-have-been-cast-spiritually-i-have-already-won-jomoro-mp-audio/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 13:55:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467293 Member of Parliament for Jomoro constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has expressed strong belief in her re-election on December 7, 2024.

The first-time MP believes she is the best bet and is in a better position to retain the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The lawmaker and her entourage were involved in a fatal accident at Komenda Junction on the Takoradi-Cape Coast-Accra Highway in August while returning to Accra after launching her campaign at Half Assini. She was referred to the U.S. for further medical treatment and returned on October 24.

Although her absence has raised concerns about her ability to win the seat, the MP has said the constituents have already made up their minds about her candidature and don’t necessarily need a campaign to win.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, she declared she is just awaiting confirmation from her constituents.

“I was poised to win the election. By the grace of God, we have voted spiritually, and I have already won. My people have even told me not to come to Jomoro.”

“By this time, every MP is busily campaigning but because of the foundation I have laid, my executives go out there and they can amass people at a rally even in my absence,” she stated.

According to her, the group was led by the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, Paul Essien.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Affo-Toffey alleged that Mr. Essien and his supporters even wished her dead so a by-election could take place.

However, she stated that God, through His infinite mercies and the good work she is doing, saved her life and the lives of her entourage.

“God will not just cut my life short because I am even yet to begin the work. My opponents were looking for every possible way to discredit me, so they came up with stories that I was not in the vehicle.

“It was very sad because if he can’t call me to wish me a speedy recovery, I don’t know why he would fabricate stories,” she bemoaned.

The lawmaker and her entourage narrowly escaped a serious accident at Komenda Junction on the Takoradi-Cape Coast-Accra Highway on Thursday.

The accident occurred when the team was returning to Accra after launching her campaign at Half Assini.

The lawmaker was referred to the U.S. for further medical treatment and returned on October 24.

2024 election: I would have openly declared my support for Cheddar if… – Dormaahene https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-i-would-have-openly-declared-my-support-for-cheddar-if-dormaahene/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 10:42:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467122 Independent presidential candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako, has called on the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II to resolve differences between him and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He said the two most significant traditional rulers in the country must resolve the rift and unite for the good of the country.

He made the call when he paid a courtesy call on Osagyefo Agyemang Badu.

Nana Bediako presented drinks to the Dormaahene as a peace offering, promising to do the same with Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

Bono

Nana Bediako, who hails from the region, considers Bono his ancestral home; a proud son of the land and was returning to pay homage to the Dormaahene and seek his blessings as he (Bediako) began his tour of the region.

“I return to the Bono Region not only to pay respect to you, our revered ruler,” he said, adding “but also to seek your blessing as I embark on a tour through the region. Failure to seek your blessing will be a mark of great disrespect.”

Nana Bediako, who is also the leader of the New Force, noted that the Bono Region possessed attributable mineral reserves valued at $132 billion, an incredible amount that was twice the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

This untapped wealth, he pointed out, had the potential to transform not only the region but the entire nation.

For his part, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu acknowledged the significance of Nana Bediako’s call for the resolution of the rift between him and Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

He expressed his admiration for the leader of the New Force, describing his words of unity as unprecedented.

“You speak words that not even our leaders have dared to utter,” the Dormaahene stated.

“Your call for unity is powerful, and I promise you this – your message will not be in vain,” he stated.

Challenges

The Dormaahene noted that despite 32 years of alternating rule by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the nation continued to wallow in under-development.

He did not hold back in declaring that Nana Kwame Bediako represented a bold departure from the established political order – the one who truly represented the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of Ghanaians.

“If it were not for the 1992 constitution, which forbids traditional rulers from participating in politics,” he said, “I would have openly declared my support for you right here and now.”

Mr. Mahama made these remarks at his Good Governance Forum on Thursday, ahead of the December 7 election, stating that this poses a serious threat to good governance and accountability in the nation.

He expressed concern over what he described as the erosion of institutional integrity and its implications for the country’s democracy.

He noted that an independent and robust judiciary, along with a credible electoral body, is essential for ensuring fair elections and justice for all citizens.

“For almost eight years, the government has deliberately and systematically worked to weaken and undermine the independence of the Judiciary, the Electoral Commission, and the Audit Service for their own parochial purposes,” he said.

“Our human rights record, including press freedom, has suffered, just as the fight against corruption has. Journalists have been hounded and cowered into silence and self-censorship.”

He pledged collaboration with various stakeholders, including civil society and the media, to reinforce transparency and accountability within government institutions.

“But I can assure you that there’s hope. The NDC, under my leadership, is ready and willing to work with Ghanaians, our key stakeholders, civil society, our traditional leaders, and our development partners to restore good governance to our beloved country,” he added.

This comprehensive resource has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s electoral process since its first publication in 2008.

The manual’s evolution over the years reflects the Judiciary’s dedication to ensuring the sanctity of democracy in Ghana.

Chief Justice Torkornoo acknowledged the tireless efforts of her predecessors, Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, Justice Sophia Akuffo, and Justice Anin Yeboah, in sustaining this critical publication.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting fundamental freedoms and human rights, Chief Justice Torkornoo stressed the Judiciary’s role in providing mechanisms for securing rights and access to justice.

She highlighted the need for all arms of government to work together in building a thriving and prosperous republic.

The Judiciary has consistently played a crucial role in refereeing election-related disputes, providing firm principles to preserve democracy. Chief Justice Torkornoo urged stakeholders to rally around the administration of law and justice, ensuring the preservation of Ghana’s national fabric.

The 5th edition of the manual is divided into three volumes, making it easier to reference. It chronicles updates in case law, guiding judicial decision-making in election disputes.

Chief Justice Torkornoo encouraged media practitioners, election administrators, candidates, and citizens to utilize this valuable resource.

A soft copy of the manual will be available on the Judicial Service website. Chief Justice Torkornoo declared the 5th edition duly launched, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to democratic evolution and the rule of law.

Volta Region NDC confused due to NPP pressure – Richard Ahiagbah https://www.adomonline.com/volta-region-ndc-confused-due-to-npp-pressure-richard-ahiagbah/ Thu, 31 Oct 2024 19:06:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466800 The Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region is currently confused due to the NPP’s pressure ahead of the 2024 elections.

Mr. Ahiagbah made these claims at a press conference to refute allegations that people were bused in for the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s, recent tour in the area.

He stated that the Volta Region is experiencing an electoral renaissance led by its middle class and youth.

“Like the youth across the country, the youth of this region have embraced Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s fourth industrial-era programs and policies, which are designed to put the Ghanaian youth at the forefront of global competition for jobs, education, and business opportunities.

“The NDC is confused. They can’t understand what is happening in the Volta Region, which is shocking. However, as a Voltarian, I am not surprised because I believe the Volta Region will someday become a competitive electoral market,” he said.

He added that the NPP’s proposition for the Volta Region is an electoral partnership aimed at developing the area.

To this end, he appealed to Voltarians to support the NPP in winning the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and to implement its Bold Solutions for Jobs and Business.

He stated that the NDC has taken the support of the Volta Region for granted, arguing that the NDC’s hypnosis of voters has brought nothing positive.

“Therefore, it is time to abandon this unproductive electoral partnership with the NDC because the region has not benefited. As their elders say, ‘vi de tae wo tsa atsi do.’

“The NPP is grateful to the Volta Region for its steady embrace of the party, and they expect to obtain threefold to fivefold the votes received in the 2020 presidential election, that is, between 300,000 and 500,000,” he noted.

2024 polls: Reject candidates campaigning on religious grounds – Mahama tells Ghanaians https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-reject-candidates-campaigning-on-religious-grounds-mahama-tells-ghanaians/ Thu, 31 Oct 2024 17:49:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466775 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging Ghanaians to reject individuals who are campaigning based on religious grounds ahead of the December 7 election.

The flagbearer, John Mahama, has stated that such actions can disrupt the peaceful coexistence and cohesion that the country is currently enjoying.

The former President emphasized that the upcoming elections should not be about religious discrimination but rather about issues that will promote development and progress.

Speaking at a rally in Kumbungu, Mahama expressed concern over the increasing trend of some political figures campaigning based on religious affiliation, describing this as a serious threat to Ghana’s unity.

“The elections should be about the issues that drive development and prosperity for all Ghanaians,” Mahama stated, encouraging voters to prioritize policies over religious distinctions.

He further highlighted the NDC’s commitment to development across all regions of Ghana without discrimination, urging voters to recognize the party’s record of inclusive progress.

Mahama encouraged all Ghanaians to stand against religious discrimination in politics, underscoring the importance of unity as the nation approaches the polls.

Speaking on Joy News’s AM Show on Thursday, October 31, 2024, Sowah emphasised that Ghana remains the only country in Africa with a commendable record of democracy, highlighting the need to maintain this recognition by organising a peaceful election this year.

“If you look at Africa now, Ghana is at the forefront of democratic governance. Throughout the electoral period, there will be many issues, but Ghana has managed to keep the flag flying. The whole world is watching us, and this is the time to prove that we are a democratic and peace-loving people,” he stated.

He added, “It is the ballot that matters; you speak with your thumb, not with a bullet. There is no need to carry a weapon to the polling stations.”

Carl emphasised the importance of voting wisely and peacefully, stating, “We must vote—vote wisely and peacefully, devoid of gun violence.”

As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful election this year, the Commission has launched the “Silencing the Gun to Save Lives” campaign.

The aim is to discourage the use of weapons to create situations that could negatively impact lives and tarnish Ghana’s democracy.

Elections 2024: NPP targets up to 500,000 votes in Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/elections-2024-npp-targets-up-to-500000-votes-in-volta-region/ Thu, 31 Oct 2024 07:13:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466448 The Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says the party is setting an ambitious target for the 2024 presidential election, to secure between 300,000 and 500,000 votes.

This projection represents a substantial increase in voter support compared to the party’s performance in 2020.

Addressing a press conference on the “abuse of the electoral loyalty of the Volta Region” on 30th October 2024 at the New Patriotic Party Regional Headquarters in Ho, Mr Ahiagbah emphasized the party’s commitment to expanding its appeal across the country.

“Our expectation is clear: the NPP is targeting between 300,000 and 500,000 votes in the 2024 presidential election,” he stated. “This is more than just a numerical target. It represents our conviction that the message we bring — focused on economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development — is resonating with Ghanaians.”

Break stranglehold

He noted that: “This will help break the NDC’s unproductive and abusive stranglehold on the Volta Region and turn it into a battleground where the NPP and the NDC compete for votes based on programs and policies that uplift the people”.

According to him, turning the Volta Region into a battleground is possible. “It is not going to be business as usual for the NDC. The usual deception, misrepresentation of inflaming sectional differences, and the invocation of former President Rawlings as a son of Volta to derive votes. This will no longer work for the NDC,” he added.

He indicated that: “I expect the NDC to ridicule this battleground idea, but it would be foolhardy. The change in voter behavior started with the 2020 general elections when the NPP won the Hohoe seat for the first time, improved its showing in Ketu North, and obtained 14.1 percent of the presidential votes”.

Electoral renaissance

He said the Volta Region was experiencing an electoral renaissance led by its middle class and youth, adding that “like the youth across the country, the youth of this region have embraced Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s fourth industrial-era programs and policies, which are designed to put the Ghanaian youth on the frontier of global competition for jobs, education, and business opportunities”.

Mr Ahiagbah further stated that “the evidence of the renaissance became manifest with the warm welcome accorded to Dr Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, during his recent tour of the region. The NDC is confused. They can’t understand what is happening in the Volta Region, which is shocking.

“However, as a Voltarian, I am not surprised because I believe the Volta Region will someday become a competitive electoral market”.

He emphasized that the NPP’s proposition for the Volta Region was an electoral partnership to develop the region.

To this end, he appealed to Voltarians to support the NPP in winning the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and implement its Bold Solutions for Jobs and Business.

“The outcome for the Volta Region in this proposition is accelerated regional development. The considerable investment of the Akufo-Bawumia Administration in the region is a herald of mammoth growth when Dr. Bawumia becomes President,” he added.

Amenfi Central NDC protests disqualification of Joana Cudjoe https://www.adomonline.com/amenfi-central-ndc-protests-disqualification-of-joana-cudjoe/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 18:17:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466354 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Amenfi Central Constituency in the Western Region has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) disqualification of their Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

At a press conference addressed by Constituency Secretary,Fiifi Sangmoah, the party described the EC’s action as “undemocratic, unconstitutional, provocative, and barefacedly instigated.”

READ BELOW THE FULL PRESS STATEMENT:

PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE CONSTITUENCY SECRETARY

HON. FIIFI SANGMOAH ON THE DISQUALIFICATION BY THE ELECTORAL

COMMISSION OF THE NDC’S AMENFI CENTRAL PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen. Respectful Comrades and Party faithfuls, the press and the good people of Ghana, we are indeed grateful for your time and appreciate your quick response to this urgent call. This call is of importance to us and we are grateful that you have gathered here on this short notice. We bring you warm greetings from Amenfi Central Constituency Executive Members.

Today, we would like to take a moment to express our dissatisfaction on the recent pronouncement by the Electoral Commission on the disqualification of our Parliamentary Candidate of the Amenfi Central Constituency Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe. We want to unequivocally state here and now that we will not and shall not accept this decision made by the electoral commission.

We see the EC’S action as undemocratic, unconstitutional but provocative and barefacedly instigated and executed by leadership of the Commission.

The EC has shown gross incompetence by unlawfully disqualifying our duly elected parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe for which they the Electoral Commission supervised all the process leading to her candidature.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me set the records straight:

1. On May 13, 2023, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) conducted its parliamentary primaries in the Amenfi Central Constituency, where Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe won overwhelmingly as the chosen candidate.

2. However, following that victory, certain individuals who were dissatisfied with the outcome filed a lawsuit at the Sekondi High Court, questioning the legitimacy of the election.  In response, an interlocutory injunction was secured, which temporarily restrained Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe from holding herself out as the duly elected parliamentary candidate until the final determination of the substantive matter.

3. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, and mindful of the electoral timelines, the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee made the prudent decision to annul the May 13, 2023, elections and proceed with fresh primaries.

4. Thus, on September 8, 2024, fresh elections were held. While five candidates initially contested the May election, for the September 2024 rerun, only Joana Gyan Cudjoe and the incumbent Peter Kwakye-Ackah filed and went through the vetting process.

5. The September election was conducted in accordance with all party rules and electoral guidelines, and was supervised by the Electoral Commission itself, which was duly informed of every step we took.

6. The process was transparent, and Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe was once again declared the clear and decisive winner, without any protests or objections from the other candidates there were no controversies surrounding the process.

7. The September 8 election superseded the May election, making the earlier contest irrelevant and reinforcing Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s legitimacy as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.

8. The September 2024 election rendered the May 2023 election null and void. It effectively reset the clock. Despite these undeniable facts, the Electoral Commission, sought to disqualify Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

9. The May 2023 election, which was the subject of that injunction, no longer exists. It was annulled and replaced by the fresh September 2024 election.

10. The EC supervised the acclamation of Joana Gyan Cudjoe, allowed her to go through the filling of nominations for the December 2024 polls process.

The EC made no objections during these critical moments. And now, suddenly, they claim she is disqualified based on an injunction tied to an annulled election.

Ladies and gentlemen, the NDC will fight back with everything we’ve got, and we will not stop until justice is done and the people’s will is restored.

We need only one thing to be done by the EC and that is to restore the name of Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s credentials on the notice of poll and by extension ballot papers assigned for Amenfi Central.

The NDC, Amenfi Central will welcome the outcome of the results on December 7, 2024 if and only if Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe remains as part of the contenders.

2024 election: Muslim community in Ashanti Region issues guidelines for zero violence https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-muslim-community-in-ashanti-region-issues-guidelines-for-zero-violence/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 18:09:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466348 The Muslim Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the Ashanti Region has issued guidelines to clerics and traditional authorities in zongo communities for peace campaigns.

In achieving an incident-free election in the zongo communities, clerics are to consistently include peace messages in their teachings at the mosques.

Secretary, Uztaz Deen says the guidelines are based on the teachings of the Holy Quran and acceptable norms of society.

“With the guidelines, our imams will ensure these messages for part of their sermons delivered after prayers”, he said.

The call for peace has often heightened in election seasons. It has often come with public sensitization of rules and regulations of election.

According to the leaders of Islam, most political parties tend to recruit some individuals from the zongo communities for vigilante activities.

This phenomenon is among the issues the guidelines aim at halting.

Chairman for the Muslim Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Sheik Mohammed Ridwan explains the documents have been simplified into three languages.

“We have circulated the document to all imams in the region. The documents are in English and Arabic to make it easier for the clerics. He hopes that after the teachings go down to the grounds, the politicians are not able to recruit young people from the zongos for disturbances”, he added.

An event dubbed “Peace before, during and after the December 7th General Elections” organized by the Muslim grouping is among a series of peace fora being held ahead of the election.

The event brought together stakeholders in zongo communities in the Ashanti Region, with other representatives from the Christian faith.

According to him, the Dome-Kwabenya constituents do not have short memories.

In this regard, he is optimistic they will not easily forget the NPP’s track record, which he believes is evident in the constituency.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Free Zones Authority said this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

He expressed hope that all Ghanaians would come together and vote for Dr. Bawumia to lead the country through its growth and development.

“We [Dome-Kwabenya] know the NDC. We don’t forget, and we don’t have short memories. We know that when it comes to policies, the NPP has a better record.

“If you look at Bawumia and Mahama, you know who has been previously linked to corruption; you have performed better and will be the future president,” he stated.

Mr. Ocquaye is seeking to succeed incumbent MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, whom he defeated in the NPP primary by 778 votes.

Adwoa Safo has served as MP for the past 12 years.

According to him, he smiles whenever he hears such projections.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mike Ocquaye stated that pollsters predicted he would lose the NPP parliamentary primary.

However, at the end of the day, he emerged victorious and a force to be reckoned with.

“My campaign is different; it is submarine. We are on the ground listening to the people to know what their needs are so we can serve them accordingly. I am an area boy and engaged the people on a deeper level,” he stated.

He added there is no way the National Democratic Congress(NDC) can snatch the seat from the NPP.

“The Dome-Kwabenya seat will forever remain blue and the NDC knows there is no way they can win it. Dome-Kwabenya constituents know that the NPP candidate is experienced and is an area boy,” he declared.

Mr Ocquaye Jnr is contesting against the NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu and with Dome-Kwabenya as the largest constituency, it is a critical battleground in the upcoming elections.

Bawumia is honest and hardworking; vote for him – Akufo-Addo to Ghanaians https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-is-honest-and-hardworking-vote-for-him-akufo-addo-to-ghanaians/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 12:00:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466107 President Nana Akufo-Addo is urging Ghanaians to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to continue the government’s development agenda.

Describing Dr. Bawumia as a very honest, patriotic, and hardworking person, Akufo-Addo, who was on the ‘Farewell Tour‘ in the Ahafo region, explained that he wants to hand over the mantle to a selfless leader who can move Ghana forward.

With less than three months left in office, the President stated that most of the time, Dr. Bawumia and he are the last to leave Jubilee House, which he sees as a testament to Bawumia’s commitment to the country’s development.

“As I leave office, I plead with Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia. If there is any person who can testify about Bawumia, it is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and I can best do so,” he said. “I will not leave Ghana in the hands of someone who cannot do the work. God will not even allow me to do that,” he emphasized.

He stated that Dr. Bawumia epitomizes a flawless personality, adding, “It is not everyone you work with that you can bear this testimony, but I say that Bawumia is a very honest, patriotic, and hardworking person.

“Sometimes, at the Jubilee House, around 12 midnight to 2 AM, Dr. Bawumia’s office and mine will still be open, ensuring the work is done. So I plead with Ghanaians, if you need a President who will serve you better, it is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he concluded.

2024 Polls: Traditional Council distances itself from Cynthia Morrison’s independent candidacy https://www.adomonline.com/2024-polls-traditional-council-distances-itself-from-cynthia-morrisons-independent-candidacy/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 11:38:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466059 The Traditional Council of Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region has distanced itself from the decision of Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison to contest as an Independent candidate in the December 7 election.

The chiefs have stated that it is not true they are behind her candidacy or that they approve of it.

Speaking on behalf of the Traditional Council at a meeting, the Omankrado of Agona Nyakrom, Nana Ekuful IV, stated that the MP’s aide, Kofi Osei, was spreading falsehoods about their involvement.

Nana Ekuful IV has therefore warned Mr. Osei and Madam Morrison not to mention the chiefs in the course of their campaign activities and to pursue their political agenda independently.

“The reports are that the Agona chiefs are asking Cynthia Morrison to go independent, but we have never met to take any such decision. We haven’t sent anyone to go independent,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Esieni V, also cautioned politicians to stop dragging the chiefs into their activities.

He called on all politicians in Agona West to embark on clean campaigns to promote peace.

2024 Election: Vote wisely – Weta paramount chief urges residents https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-vote-wisely-weta-paramount-chief-urges-residents/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 11:16:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466024 The Paramount Chief of Weta Traditional Area and President of the Weta Traditional Council in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, Torgbui Akpo Ashiakpor VI, has called on his people to vote wisely in the upcoming December 7 general election.

He believes this will help bring the needed development to the area.

He noted that the area remains the main food basket within the Ketu North Municipality and deserves a fair share of developmental projects.

Torgbui Ashiakpor VI made this call while speaking at the 2024 Homecoming and Rice Festival celebration.

The Weta enclave is known for the commercial cultivation of rice in large quantities.

The Chief urged residents not to vote under the influence of petty coins that politicians may give them. Instead, they should view voting as a responsibility to safeguard their future.

He also admonished the sub-chiefs, queen mothers, residents, and politicians to endeavor to eschew divisive and inflammatory comments that could jeopardize the peace and stability of Ghana.

He emphasized that the GH₵200 politicians may give them today cannot compensate for their suffering in the next four years.

The Chief added that they should not support any politician who wants to use inappropriate or violent means to gain power.

Torgbui Akpo Ashiakpor VI seized the opportunity to call on all parliamentary candidates to restore credibility to their political parties while appealing to the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election.

He noted that the peace enjoyed by citizens should continue before, during, and after the election.

The Chief, however, commended the electoral body for not acting in ways that undermine the trust of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Torgbui Ashiakpor VI acknowledged the selfless spirit of volunteerism and commitment exhibited by the planning committee, headed by Torgbui Tsetseku Soshie V, in making the festival a success and for all the developmental projects initiated in the community.

“Fellow citizens of Weta Traditional Area, we should always be guided by the old adage that says, ‘tre eve menͻ tͻŋgͻ me gbena goȡoȡo,’ which translates to ‘two calabashes floating on a river will not cease touching each other,'” Torgbui Akpo Ashiakpor VI concluded.

Treat Bawumia’s Volta Regional tour as null and void – NDC Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/treat-bawumias-volta-regional-tour-as-null-and-void-ndc-chairman/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 11:08:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466037 The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has called on residents to disregard the just-ended tour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

During a press conference, he stated that Dr. Bawumia, as typical of him, failed to offer any specific, actionable message or concrete plans tailored to the expectations of the people in the Volta Region.

He contrasted this with the NDC flagbearer and former president, John Dramani Mahama, who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the people of this region.

The Chairman laid out a comprehensive plan that includes the revitalization of the Juapong Textiles Factory, the establishment of satellite campuses of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Keta and Battor, the development of the Keta-Denu-Ho and Eastern Corridor roads, and the provision of essential infrastructure such as water supply, a military hospital, a quaternary hospital, and a modern market in Aflao.

“Alhaji Bawumia’s indifference to the plight of tidal wave victims is evident; he has never shown up to offer comfort to those affected.

“Instead, he chose to prioritize meetings with party delegates over the victims of a natural disaster—a clear testament to his lack of empathy for the people of the Volta Region,” Mr. Agbavitor said.

These initiatives, according to him, are certainly not empty promises but practical projects specifically aimed at improving the lives of people in the Volta Region.

“Even more concerning is his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), who once threatened to lead a protest in Kumasi if government funds were allocated to support tidal wave victims.

“Such remarks go a long way in underscoring the deep-seated disrespect and disregard that the Bawumia-Napo ticket has for the people of the Volta Region. Their actions reveal a troubling hypocrisy; they attempt to court our support while consistently showing contempt for our people and our sufferings,” he added.

Mr. Agbavitor reiterated that Mr. Mahama and the NDC remain the true hope for the Volta Region and its people.

He stated that Mahama’s track record speaks for itself, and his dedication to transforming the Volta Region is unwavering.

He added that only under his leadership can we achieve the development and progress we so richly deserve.

According to him, John Mahama is certainly the most capable leader who can reset this country and redirect it onto the path of progress and development.

NDC unveils ‘empty promises’ of Bawumia’s Volta Region tour https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-unveils-empty-promises-of-bawumias-volta-region-tour/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 09:57:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466016 The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region, Mawutor Agbavitor, has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing him of presenting “pseudo-promises” that lack actionable follow-through.

“A Tour of Deception”

During a press conference, Mr. Agbavitor contrasted the NDC’s development plan with what he described as the NPP’s neglect of the region’s urgent needs. “Today, we gather to expose the deception behind Dr. Bawumia’s tour, which was nothing more than a series of hollow pledges,” he asserted.

He argued that Bawumia’s visit failed to deliver any concrete initiatives, ultimately falling short of addressing the Volta Region’s pressing needs.

Mahama’s Vision vs. Bawumia’s Promises

Agbavitor presented former President John Dramani Mahama’s work as a model of purposeful leadership, highlighting Mahama’s sustainable vision for the region. He emphasized key projects spearheaded by Mahama, including the revitalization of the Juapong Textiles Factory, development of University of Health and Allied Sciences satellite campuses in Keta and Battor, and significant infrastructure projects such as the Keta-Denu-Ho and Eastern Corridor roads.

“These are not empty promises; they are actionable projects aimed at transforming lives,” he emphasized.

In contrast, he criticized Bawumia’s mention of a sea defense wall in Ketu South, pointing out its absence from the NPP’s official manifesto. “If this was a genuine commitment, it would be a priority.

Instead, Dr. Bawumia has left our coastal communities unprotected, just as he abandoned the victims of tidal waves,” Agbavitor said, challenging the NPP’s dedication to those affected by natural disasters.

Accusations of Indifference and Neglect

Agbavitor pointed to what he described as Bawumia’s indifference toward the Volta Region. “He has never visited tidal wave victims, instead prioritizing delegate meetings over addressing the suffering of our people,” he noted.

He also referenced controversial remarks from Bawumia’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who previously threatened to protest government aid for these victims, calling the statement disrespectful and questioning Bawumia’s sincerity.

Unfulfilled Promises at Juapong Textiles

Turning to the Juapong Textile Factory, Agbavitor questioned Bawumia’s economic strategy for the region. “Is there any NPP commitment to Juapong? As chairman of the economic management team, what has Dr. Bawumia done for our industry?” he asked. He also cited the lack of resettlement for communities affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage, adding, “Thirteen months have passed with no solutions. This is the NPP’s track record.”

Infrastructure Delays and Broken Commitments

Agbavitor highlighted the deteriorating state of the Ho-Tokor road, which was initially awarded to AMANDI Construction under Mahama’s administration in 2016.

“It’s surprising that Bawumia still mentions this road in 2024, a project they promised in 2019 but have since allowed to deteriorate,” he said, casting doubt on the credibility of the NPP’s commitments after years of inaction.

Allegations of Manufactured Support

The NDC chairman questioned the authenticity of the crowds at Bawumia’s events, alleging that attendees were bussed in from other areas with promises of food and money.

“In Keta, some attendees were even given rotten tomatoes—an insulting gesture that epitomizes the NPP’s contempt for our people,” Agbavitor claimed.

Selective Praise and Misrepresentation

Agbavitor addressed the selective endorsements Bawumia received from certain chiefs, asserting that they did not reflect the region’s overall sentiment.

“Togbui Acolatse V’s known affiliation with the NPP doesn’t represent the people of Keta, who are aware of which leaders truly prioritize their interests,” he said. He also cited a pastor who later retracted his support for Bawumia, clarifying that his remarks were made under pressure and did not reflect the views of the broader clergy.

A Call to Trust the NDC

Agbavitor concluded by urging Volta Region residents to support the NDC and place their trust in Mahama’s vision for a brighter future.

“H.E. John Dramani Mahama remains the true hope for our people. His track record speaks for itself, and under his leadership, we will achieve the development we deserve,” he declared.

The press conference delivered a clear critique of Bawumia’s tour, portraying the NDC as a committed advocate for the region’s welfare and emphasizing the need for accountable and effective leadership.

We can’t achieve much with a 24-hour economy — ISSER https://www.adomonline.com/we-cant-achieve-much-with-a-24-hour-economy-isser/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 09:51:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2466009 The Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Prof. Peter Quartey, has called for the integration of the proposed 24-hour economy initiative into Ghana’s long-term development plan.

The economic expert explained that, although it is a good initiative, the country may not be able to achieve anything significant with it in the short term. He stated that implementing a 24-hour economy initiative requires a solid foundation of essential infrastructure, including reliable energy (power) and robust security measures.

Unfortunately, he noted that these critical components are currently lacking, necessitating significant investment of time and resources to develop them.

Demand

He made these remarks at the launch of the State of the Ghanaian Economy Report (SGER) 2023 and a review of the third-quarter 2024 economic performance in Accra on Tuesday, October 29.

The ISSER director stated that there is no demand for factories in the country to increase capacity by 100 percent as part of the 24-hour economy initiative.

“The 24-hour economy is a good thing, but unfortunately, we may not be able to achieve anything with it. If all the factories were to produce 24 hours or increase their demand by 50 percent or 100 percent, is there demand for the product?

“So, I think, in my view, not to discourage anybody’s political ambition, but to say that this is a medium- to long-term policy. I do not think it can really kick in. We cannot achieve much with this 24-hour thing. It is a good idea, but we need to put in some structures,” he said.

Manifestos

Prof. Quartey stated that political parties are focused on developing short-term measures in their manifestos instead of creating a long-term plan to guide the country’s development.

“These days, we are fond of manifestos and short-term strategies. We do not have a development plan. So, everyone comes in wanting to change this or that in an experimental manner.

“We need a long-term development plan, and then all of these things can fit in nicely,” he added.

24-hour economy

The 24-hour economy initiative is a flagship campaign promise of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.

According to the NDC, the initiative seeks to unlock the country’s full potential.

A 24-hour economy is a system where businesses and services operate beyond traditional daytime hours, making them available in the evenings, nighttime, and early morning.

This allows for increased flexibility in accessing goods and services and creates more job opportunities, especially for individuals who prefer or are available to work during non-traditional hours.

EC suspends printing of ballot papers over Akua Donkor’s death https://www.adomonline.com/ec-suspends-printing-of-ballot-papers-over-akua-donkors-death/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 07:56:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465938

The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 presidential election following the death of Akua Donkor, the candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

According to the EC, the suspension is to allow the party 10 days to nominate a new presidential candidate.

The EC stated that the decision aligns with Article 50 (4) of the 1992 Constitution, which specifies, “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of ten days shall be allowed for nominations,” as noted in portions of a statement issued by the EC.

A statement signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the EC, added, “While the 1992 Constitution and the Public Elections Regulations, 2020, C.I. 127, are not clear on processes to follow in the event of the death of a Presidential Candidate, Article 50 (4) of the 1992 Constitution provides as follows: ‘Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of ten days shall be allowed for nominations.'”

In a related development, Madam Donkor’s vice-presidential candidate, Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, has expressed his readiness to replace her.

Akua Donkor, aged 72, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Ridge Hospital after a brief illness.

Can transparency save the EC’s image? Prof. Agyeman-Duah on the way forward https://www.adomonline.com/can-transparency-save-the-ecs-image-prof-agyeman-duah-on-the-way-forward/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 07:13:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465930 With a mandate to ensure free and fair elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) faces the steep challenge of regaining public trust, and Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah believes transparency is key.

In an interview on PM Express on Tuesday, the former senior UN Governance Advisor discussed actionable steps the EC could take to regain legitimacy and trust, following Afrobarometer’s revealing data on institutional mistrust.

His comments follow Afrobarometer’s findings, which show a concerning dip in public trust toward the EC and a perception that opposition grievances are not adequately addressed.

With 40 days remaining until the 2024 elections, the EC has become one of the least trusted public institutions in Ghana. The latest Afrobarometer survey reveals a rising public perception of the EC as corrupt.

Despite the EC’s responsibility to organize the December 7 elections in a fair, impartial, and transparent manner, only 28% of respondents expressed trust in the Commission. This marks a significant decline from the 59% trust level it enjoyed in 2012. In 2022, public trust stood at 33%, but it has now declined further to 28%.

“Perhaps the Commission, with the few weeks left, can make it up in some way,” Prof. Agyeman-Duah suggested, acknowledging the difficulty of the task.

He cited recent EC reforms as positive moves, particularly measures allowing regional centers to count presidential ballots independently.

“Now that presidential ballots are counted at the regional level, anybody can monitor from the regions and get to know who won,” he explained, noting that this counters perceptions of biased tallying in specific “strongholds.”

Prof. Agyeman-Duah called on civil society and political parties to actively support the EC’s monitoring initiatives, which he views as critical to maintaining transparency.

“When I say the EC needs to be supported, it doesn’t mean we should throw our full weight behind them for whatever they do,” he clarified. “Civil society, like CDD-Ghana, and the party monitors at the various centers need to be there, especially now that we are counting at regional stations,” emphasizing the role of collective oversight in restoring public faith in the electoral process.

He also stressed the need for openness from polling stations to regional centers.

“If we all cooperate and do our part…then you can predict the outcomes even before the EC announces them.”

Prof. Agyeman-Duah’s appeal underscores the importance of transparency and accountability from both the EC and its stakeholders in rebuilding public trust.

Mahama urges calm amidst renewed chieftaincy clashes in Bawku https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-urges-calm-amidst-renewed-chieftaincy-clashes-in-bawku/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 12:58:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465699 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has urged calm and restraint among Bawku residents following the resurgence of chieftaincy clashes.

The long-standing conflict resurfaced on Sunday, October 27, 2024, with the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile.

Speaking to supporters in Saboba as part of his Northern regional campaign, Mr. Mahama urged all factions involved to avoid any form of violent provocation.

The former President emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the conflict.

“Without peace, there cannot be progress. Unfortunately, any time the peace of Ghana is disturbed, it is the NPP government that is in power. Recently, I have been hearing about some things happening in Bawku that appear to be threatening to disturb the peace there.

“I appeal to the people of the Bawku area and all stakeholders involved in what is happening there to exercise patience and restraint. We know that some sinister hands are trying to stoke the fires of ethnic conflict,” he admonished.

Mr. Mahama also pledged his commitment to restoring total peace in Bawku if elected in the December 7 elections.

“They should not allow themselves to be provoked into violence. So, please, the people of the Bawku area, I’m begging you and pleading with you to remain calm, be restrained, and don’t resort to conflict.

“The NDC is coming, and when we do, we will ensure that there’s peace in Bawku and the surrounding areas,” he noted.

Mahama’s 5 questions for Bawumia [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/mahamas-5-questions-for-bawumia-listen/ Tue, 29 Oct 2024 11:53:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465643 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has tasked his main contender in the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to answer certain questions regarding the economy.

Mr. Mahama stated that, unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, who posed 170 questions to his late former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, he needs just five answers.

Addressing electorates as part of his Northern Regional campaign tour, the former President emphasized that the cedi is still struggling to find its feet.

“He posed 170 questions to my Vice President Amissah Arthur, but he should just answer these five questions on the economy,” he said.

Below are the questions Mr. Mahama seeks answers to with 39 days remaining until the December 7 election:

  1. Why is the exchange rate GH₵17 to the dollar?

2. Why has Ghana’s debt risen from GH₵120 billion to GH₵767 billion in eight years?

3. Why is inflation where it is; why did it rise to 54% under your administration for eight years?

4. Why did you borrow 42 billion from the Bank of Ghana(BoG)?.

“He should come and answer those questions; we don’t need 170 questions. he can answer them willingly but Ghanaians want answers to these five questions,” he added.

5. Why has he run away from the economy to digitalisation? he used to make so much noise but now he is all about digitalisation.

2024 Election: Mahama scolds NPP for wooing electorates with cooking oil https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-mahama-scolds-npp-for-wooing-electorates-with-cooking-oil/ Mon, 28 Oct 2024 18:04:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465386 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly distributing cooking oils in an attempt to garner votes in the upcoming December 7 elections.

Mr Mahama has asserted that the NPP’s mismanagement has led to economic hardship and widespread poverty.

As a result, the party is now forced to resort to sharing basic essentials the ordinary Ghanaian could have afforded in the past years to win votes.

The former President was reacting to a viral video which he said purportedly captured NPP members engaging in the distribution of cooking oil in some markets.

“They are going to bring money and things trying to buy your votes but don’t be persuaded. I saw a video of them in a market distributing cooking oil and it is because they have impoverished the people and made 870k Ghanaians fall below the poverty line that is why you can go and deceive them with a bottle of oil.

“Otherwise Ghanaians should be able to buy their own oil why would you deceive them with a bottle of oil with the intent of persuading them to vote for you,” he stated while addressing electorates as part of his Northern regional campaign tour.

Mr Mahama and the NDC have been reminding electorates in the Northern East region of the economic destruction caused by the NPP, pushing many into the the poverty line.

According to him, the 2024 elections is crucial to the growth and development of the country and it citizens, hence voters should not be swayed by the sharing of monies and basic products.

The NDC says, their target is to empower people and improve livelihoods.

John Mahama indicated that his party will respect voters by selling promising messages and spreading solutions which will bring hope to the people.

EC will ensure successful polls – Dr Bossman Asare assures citizens https://www.adomonline.com/ec-will-ensure-successful-polls-dr-bossman-asare-assures-citizens/ Mon, 28 Oct 2024 12:22:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465092 The Electoral Commission (EC) is doing everything possible and reasonable to ensure that the country holds another successful general election, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, the commission’s deputy chairman, has said.

He said the Commission was convinced that there would be a peaceful process towards a credible and successful election this year.

He said the country had made progress in its democracy, adding that “we believe that the politics is about the contest of ideas”.

“The ultimate objective is that we want to ensure a highly peaceful, a highly inclusive, a highly participatory electoral process that is also embedded in integrity,” he emphasised.

Forum

Dr Asare said this at the opening of the Second Consultative Forum of the AME Zion Church at Winneba in the Central Region last Thursday.

The forum is being attended by about 600 delegates from across the country.

Vote

Dr Asare appealed to the National Commission for Civic Education, churches and everyone to encourage anyone who was a registered voter to take part in the process.

He said when everyone took part in the process, “we may end up getting an outcome which will be a reflection of the will of the people. So we don’t want a situation whereby only 50 per cent of the people will go and choose leaders for us. So we are encouraging each and everyone to ensure that once you are a registered voter, you take part in the process.”

He said the EC had collaborated extensively with the security agencies to ensure calmness and peace at all the polling stations.

Instrumental

The Secretary to the NCCE, Lucille Hewlette Annan, said the church was very instrumental and crucial to maintaining peace before, during and after the elections.

For instance, she said one of the things that the church could do was give the NCCE the opportunity to talk to its members.

She said during the election day, “we are pleading that you make time for us to talk to our people. We have young people who are now coming to vote for the first time”.

The Presiding Prelate of the WWAED of the AME Zion Church, Rt Rev. Dr Hilliard Dogbe, who chaired the event, said because it was an election year, the church decided to use the first day to have a consultation on the national elections.

Ketu North pastors eulogise Bawumia for his decency, vision and excellence https://www.adomonline.com/ketu-north-pastors-eulogise-bawumia-for-his-decency-vision-and-excellence/ Mon, 28 Oct 2024 12:21:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2465072 The Clergy, in Ketu North Constituency of the Volta Region, have passed a vote of confidence in the character traits of the Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

As part of his tour of the Volta Region, Dr. Bawumia engaged stakeholders of Ketu North Constituency at Dzodze on Wednesday morning, and among those present were the Clergy from various towns in the Constituency.

Reading the statement on behalf of his colleagues, who were present, Pastor Solomon Paintsil, of Dzodze Assemblies of God, said the Clergy in Ketu North had made three observations about Dr. Bawumia, which they wanted to share.

“I am speaking on behalf of all the clergymen present. Your Excellency we the Clergy and the entire ecclesiastical body of Ketu North and its environs have made keen observations, followed you closely in your work as Vice President of this country and have made some observations,” Pastor Paintsil said, on behalf of His colleagues.

“For the sake of time, we want to bring to your attention three of them. The ecclesiastical body and the Clergy men and all of us here have observed that your personal lifestyle, which is characterised by discipline, is noticeable all the place. It is something we want to commend you for. You are one politician that cannot be tagged with the issue of corruption,” he added.

”Permit me to say that, it appears you’re corruption-free. It appears you have some injection that helps you or gives you immunity against corruption. When you go through the media or social media, you will never find anything that brings you into the arena of corruption. I applaud you Sir.”

“Observation number 2 is your visionary spirit. You’re one politician who is full of vision . With you, it is possible,” he continued.

“Because of you , Ghana can pride itself of certain facilities that other countries don’t dream of. Today, medications can be supplied through the use of drones. It doesn’t matter the distance, we are able to do it. It only comes from a man who can dream, a man who can see possibilities. The things that others don’t see, this man can see. We call you Mr. Digitalisation, bringing the impossible to be possible.”

The Pastor continued with the Ketu North Clergy’s third observation, which praised Dr. Bawumia for his excellent work ethic.

“Observation number 3 is the execution of your dreams. You are a man of excellence. Anything you attempt to do, you do it with the excellence that it needs. If it will be done, it must be done well,” the Pastors said.

Having listed their observed positive traits of Dr. Bawumia, the Clergy assured him of their support, as he seeks to lead the country as President.

“Your Excellency, these are few of the things we want to bring to your attention and to say that we are here for you and with you.

“The presence of the Clergy here should tell you that the atmosphere is already cleared. We are expecting that should the dream come through and you become the next President of Ghana, we believe that greater things will happen.”
