The Minerals Commission has appointed a six-member caretaker team to support the regional manager in supervising the operations at the FGR Bogoso and Prestea mines, following the termination of the company’s mining leases.
The government announced the lease termination on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, after reviewing reports from the Minerals Commission and a Ministerial Committee that assessed the company’s activities.
This decision was reached after thorough consultations with all stakeholders involved.
Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor announced that the previous operators had been warned in August 2023 for numerous violations of mining regulations.
Despite repeated directives from the Minerals Commission to address the breaches, the company failed to comply.
Meanwhile, Blue Gold Bogoso Prestea Limited, claiming to be the new operator, is contesting the government’s decision, asserting that their operations are lawful and they will challenge the termination notice.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Martin Ayisi, announced that the caretaker team will “immediately take charge of the mine site’s daily operations.”
Below is the full notice.
