Captain Planet of Ghanaian music group 4X4 has announced that a top industry player has reached out to purchase their music catalogue.
Captain Planet expressed serious interest in starting discussions, describing the move as good news.
However, he added that other members of the group, Coded and Fresh Prince, are yet to finalize the decision but are likely to be engaged soon.
While some fans have kicked against the idea, Captain Planet affirmed the legitimacy of the offer.
He also argued that several other well-known artists in the industry have secretly sold their music catalogues or are currently in negotiations.
“If I should tell you guys the number of your favourites who have sold their music catalogues and live performances secretly… some of them are still in negotiations. Your artist no tell you say dem sell their catalogues secretly,” he stated.
The concept of music catalogue sales has become increasingly popular globally, offering artists large lump sums in exchange for future royalties.
If finalized, 4X4 would join a growing list of African artists leveraging their legacy for long-term value.
