Traders at the Kotokuraba market in Cape Coast, Central Region, are filled with excitement ahead of the annual Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival, particularly as they anticipate the visit of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Fetu Afahye celebrated every first week of September, is expected to attract a large crowd, with the Asantehene’s presence adding a special touch to the event.
Speaking on People’s Forum, a segment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, indigenes expressed their excitement as the festival begins.
“We are excited about the festival and even more thrilled that Otumfuo is coming. Whatever he brings, we will gladly accept, as he is a well-respected chief, and we believe in his wisdom,” one trader expressed enthusiastically.
Many traders and residents believe the Asantehene’s visit as a moment of unity and progress for the town.
“I’m glad that the chiefs are coming together. Otumfuo’s visit will surely bring progress to our community,” a resident noted.
On the issue of security, a native emphasized its importance during the festival.
“This is a big celebration, and people from all over are here, but we hope the security is tight, and streetlights are functioning to avoid any incidents that could tarnish Oguaaman’s reputation,” he expressed.
While some expressed concerns over the fading traditional values, they believe Otumfuo’s presence will inspire discussions on reviving interest in cultural practices.
“We are slowly losing our tradition. I believe Otumfuo should meet with the traditional leaders to find ways to diversify the festival and reignite interest among the people,” another trader added.
The town is gearing up to welcome the Asantehene and looks forward to a successful festival filled with cultural pride and development.
