In the heat of a media storm over a leaked audio on her marital life with Black Stars midfielder, Afriyie Acquah, Amanda described her then husband as a “Monkey”.
The derogatory term subjected the Black Stars player to public ridicule and social media trolling.
The woman at the centre of that controversy, more than a year after the public brouhaha, says the name “Monkey” was just a pet name for the player.
Amanda in late 2015 took the media by storm after she revealed in a leaked tape that she had bedded her husband’s teammate, Jordan Ayew, for four years prior to their marriage.
While passing disparaging comments about her husband – calling him ‘monkey’ – Amanda also said there was tension between the two players. She did not stop there, she eulogised Jordan’s sexual prowess and impressive girth.
The estranged wife of the Ghanaian footballer, speaking in an interview on GhOne revealed that the name ‘Monkey’ was not meant to be a pejorative term.
According to her, they both agreed on the name as Afriyie also called her “Kusie” (Rat).
Amanda revealed further that “I even used to call Ken [Kenpong] ‘Dzata’ (Lion) because he is very wild.”
Although they are no longer together, she warned other women to stay off her “Monkey”.
“We met on Skype, I just saw him standing there looking so tall, I was just looking at his six packs and his thighs and I was like Oh this guy! You are not going anywhere, you are mine… all the girls should know he is still mine forever,” she cautioned.
