CAF President, Patrice Motsepe has criticized Ghana following the recent ban on the Baba Yara stadium.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked the approval for Baba Yara Stadium to host matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
This ruling means Ghana is currently unable to host international games at the venue.
CAF cited several issues, including uneven playing surfaces, poor drainage, and insufficient grass coverage, as reasons for the decision.
During a press briefing in Nairobi, Motsepe expressed frustration at the situation, stating that it is disappointing to see countries and clubs forced to play their home games away from their own grounds.
“Nothing frustrates me more than a national team or club side having to play home matches outside,” he said.
“You can’t grow football if the national teams or club sides aren’t playing in front of their home fans. Our conversations in every country is to make sure there is at least one stadium capable of hosting a CAF category C game,” he added.
Ghana is set to face Sudan in a critical AFCON qualifying doubleheader in October.
However, the venue for the first leg remains undecided. The Black Stars will then travel to the Al-Merrikh Stadium for the return leg.
Reports suggest that, Ghana may opt to play the first leg with the Sudanese Falcons in neighbouring Togo.
