President Kurt Okraku of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is confident that FC Samartex will make Ghana proud in their debut CAF Champions League campaign.
The Ghana Premier League champions are set to face Cameroon’s Victoria United this Sunday, August 18, in the first leg of the preliminary round at the Japoma Stadium.
During a visit to their training ground on Tuesday, Okraku shared a message of encouragement before the team’s departure for Cameroon.
He urged FC Samartex to follow in the footsteps of Medeama and Dreams FC, who recently advanced to the group stages of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively.
“Your colleagues have done it just a few months ago. It’s your turn to go the extra mile to put Ghana back on the map as far as Confederation of African Football Inter-club competitions go,” he said.
“I have no doubt that there’s quality in this team. You are true champions and worthy representatives of our country in Africa. You won the Ghana Premier League on merit. I have absolute trust in the technical team to guide all of you in this adventure,” he added.
FC Samartex departed Ghana on Wednesday, August 14. The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, August 25, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
