The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially conducted the final draw for the third edition of the African Schools Football Championship, scheduled to kick off in Ghana on Wednesday, April 23.
The draw ceremony, held in Accra on Monday, April 21, was graced by several African football legends and marked a historic moment as the tournament heads to the West African region for the first time.
In the girls’ division, the draw, led by Ivorian coach Clementine Toure, placed host nation Ghana in Group A alongside last year’s runners-up Morocco, as well as Benin and Malawi. This will be Ghana’s first appearance in the competition, having missed out on qualification in the previous two editions.
Group B features defending champions South Africa, who will face stiff competition from Uganda, DR Congo, and Gambia.
Meanwhile, former Ghanaian international and Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan assisted with the draw for the boys’ category. Ghana was drawn into Group A alongside Uganda, South Africa, and Algeria.
Reigning champions Tanzania will headline Group B, where they will take on Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and DR Congo as they aim to retain their title.
Gyan praised the tournament, calling it a vital platform for nurturing the next generation of African football talent.
Under the theme Encourage, Educate, and Engage, the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship promises another thrilling edition of youth football.
The event also includes various capacity-building programs aimed at holistic development.
All matches will be played at the University of Ghana Stadium, with the grand finale set for Saturday, April 26.
