Farmers in Nkyenekyene, a community in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, are grappling with frequent bush fires that destroy their crops, especially during the dry season.
Speaking to Adom News, the farmers attributed the fires to the activities of weed smokers, hunters, farmers, and cigarette smokers, urging them to exercise caution when handling fire in the bush.
The farmers explained that the careless disposal of burning cigarette butts and remnants from weed smoking often leads to uncontrolled fires that wreak havoc on their livelihoods.
They suggested that individuals smoking in the bush dig small holes to extinguish and bury leftover embers properly to prevent sparks from igniting fires.
The farmers further appealed to community members and authorities to work together to minimize the risk of bush fires, which continue to threaten their farms and the safety of the area.
