The bursar of Salaga Senior High School (SHS) Mr. Baran Nathaniel has assaulted a chemistry teacher of the school identified as one Mensah Stephen.
According to an eye witness, the victim went to the bursar to request for money to buy some laboratory equipment and other items required for this year’s West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Chemistry practical.
He said on reaching the bursar’s office, he asked him the quantity of items he has at the laboratory and he said they were about 14 because most of the items leaked and hence will not be enough for the practical the reason he needed more. The bursar however got angry and said it is due to the irresponsibility of the teacher that caused the leakages and that he was not ready to pay a dime for someone’s negligence
He added that the Teacher on hearing those words was not happy and asked the bursar how the students were going to write the practical paper incurring the wrath of an already incensed bursar.
“The bursar slapped him and started beating him up” our source added.
He said it took the intervention of some Teachers to rescue the poor teacher from the grips of Bursar who kept subjecting him to severe punches.
Meanwhile Teachers of the school have since written a petition on the conduct of the Bursar to be submitted to the regional Director of Education for the necessary actions to be taken against him.
The sighted petition indicates that the Bursar uses the school bus as his private car and goes to Tamale every Friday with it and return on Sunday which is a worrying situation. They also complained of the poor human relation of the Bursar who insults anyone who goes to him with a problem.
Consequently, they are demanding that punitive action be taken against the bursar for misconduct or they will be compelled to lay down their tools.
Meanwhile the District Director of Education for the East Gonja District Education Directorate Alhaji Abu Baba has pleaded with the Teachers to continue to discharge their duties as the necessary authorities look into the matter.
