Head of the Local Government Service, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has said there is nothing surprising about the appointment of Moses Arhinful as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) in Awutu Senya West in the Central region.
Reports indicate Mr Arhinful was a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2004.
He was also said to have crossed carpet to Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and was even the parliamentary candidate in the 2012 general elections.
His appointment has therefore spark tension in Awutu Senya West as some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members have questioned his loyalty as someone with an unstable political allegiance.
But in an interview on Adom FM Burning Issues, Dr Arthur stated this is not the first time such an appointment has been made.
According to him, it only shows the beauty of the democracy Ghana practice.
“I don’t think it is surprising because there are precedents. In 2001, Kufour appointed Kojo Armah a CPP member as Chief Executive in Nzema. Also, Kwesi Biney, another CPP member was later appointed in Ahanta West. So I don’t think this is the first time even if he is still with another party,” he said.
In this regard, he has urged calm among the residents, stating relevant authorities must engage and explain issues better to them.
Meanwhile, Mr Arhinful replaces Joseph Aidoo whose appointment together with 23 others were revoked over the weekend by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
