Some residents of Akyem Bunso, Osino, and Enyiresi Bypass in the Eastern Region have picketed at the Jasmore Construction site, demanding compensation after their buildings were demolished to pave the way for a road project.

The irate residents have threatened to disrupt ongoing works on the stretch of the Accra Kumasi highway if they are not compensated.

In an interview with Adom News, the residents said they will mount a blockade on the two major roads, connecting Accra to other parts of the country.

The affected people include landlords, chop-bar operators, mechanics, farmers, welders and electricians, whose properties were demolished to pave the way for the construction of the two major roads that may pass as the busiest roads connecting Accra and Kumasi.

The leader and spokesperson for the group, Berimah Ansah Sasaraku Ofram II who doubles as the chief of Akyem Ankaase noted that, the demolition has made life unbearable for them.

According to him, some property owners have died within the waiting period set by government while many have been rendered homeless.

Others, he said are also being chased by their bankers for the recovery of loans.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved resident said the government had failed to honour many promises to meet them and address their concerns,

They have therefore, called on authorities to immediately pay their compensation, which is rightfully and legally due to them, without further delay.
