Buabeng Asamoah goes wild on state of security in Ghana

-

The Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, has posited strongly that Ghana, as a nation needs to invest heavily in security and treat it as topmost priority.

On Peace FM’s morning show, monitored by Adomonline.com, the politician and lawyer said statistics on security justify the need to prioritise it in Ghana.

“Statistics have shown that most successful countries have security at the top of their priorities in budgeting. We must spend more on wages, better shelter conditions, risk allowance because they are always at risk and then their welfare,” he noted.

He made a comparative analysis between Africa and outside of the continent.

“Outside Africa, the defense budget takes the chunk of national resources. Ghana must understand that we can’t wish for security structures to magically fall in place if we have not invested in it. We must invest in security. Security is money and that is the only way to give Ghanaians peace of mind,” he said.

On equipping the police, he said “they need a forensic lab to aid in criminal investigations. Old policing ways should stop. There is the need to find innovative ways to combat crime so that our investments would be worthwhile. We should not wait for bad stuff to happen before we go and purchase a few guns for them. That’s unrealistic,” he observed.
