Brouhaha over Richard Jakpa’s involvement in raid on Ken Ofori-Atta’s home settled

Businessman Richard Jakpa has been appointed Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

However, sources within National Security suggest that Mr. Jakpa’s appointment dates back to January 31, 2025.

This settles controversies over his involvement in a raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence last week.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the group consisted of about 12 individuals—five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes.

However, information gathered indicates that he had a warrant and did not break into Mr. Ofori-Atta’s house, as his security guard gave the team access.

As Director of Special Operations, Mr. Jakpa will supervise the planning and execution of covert and overt operations and develop early warning systems for emerging threats such as terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime.

Additionally, he will ensure the operational readiness of special forces and rapid response units, lead crisis response teams during national security emergencies, and undertake any other function as directed by the National Security Coordinator or Chief Director.
