A bride-to-be has been cruelly mocked after taking to social media to show off her ‘tiny’ new engagement ring.

The ring costs $132 and features a single diamond ring on a 14 karat-gold band. It was purchased on Etsy and is called the ‘Minimalist band’.

The newly engaged woman posted a photo of her ring to a Facebook wedding group revealing how she and her boyfriend had bought it online and that she was ‘in love with it’.

However, as soon as she posted it she was met with hundreds of comments about the ring’s size, with some saying it looks like ‘tin foil’ or a ‘paper clip’.

Those critical of her choice didn’t hold back, with one person asking: ‘Why even bother having a diamond there?’

Another wrote they thought the ring was possibly a joke and said the woman should ‘take the key ring off your finger and show us the ring you ordered online.’

A third wrote they had assembled a team of ‘world class physicists and astronomers’ to build new instrumentation ‘so we can see your f****** ring.’

‘It’s so small you shouldn’t bother wearing it,’ another said.

‘It’s so pitiful, I just can’t. It’s too sad,’ another wrote.

Others commented the ring looked as if the woman was wearing a ‘smidge of tin foil on her hand’ or it resembled a ‘paper clip’, reported The Sun.

‘I guess neither of you wants anyone to know you’re engaged huh,’ someone wrote.

Although the woman’s engagement band is small, it does tap into current trends for alternatives to the once-standard larger diamond solitaire.

In a piece by Wedding Chicks, it stated Etsy experts had noted a shift away from traditional rings to a range that included smaller style bands.

‘With today’s young couples investing more in life experiences (travel, home ownership) and less in over-the-top ceremonies and budget-busting rings, the days of the boulder-size diamond as a status symbol are fading fast.’
