A family is grieving the loss of their 7-year-old boy who drowned while playing hide-and seek known in local parlance as ‘pilolo’.
The deceased, Richmond Yaw fell into a manhole while returning home from the playground at Awutu Breku in the Central region Tuesday.
A friend of the deceased in an interview on Adom News said he parted ways with Yaw after the game and went home only to be told of his death.
He suspects Yaw might have lost his way home and fell into the manhole at a construction site in the area.
Distraught mother of the deceased, Sarah Dugan said she declared her son missing after he failed to return home from the playground.
However after a desperate search, she indicated that, the boy was found unconscious in a tank of water on the property.
Madam Dugan said her son was pulled from the water and CPR started, but he was already dead.
The police was called to the scene and the body was taken to the Winneba government hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Osumanu Alhassan blamed the owner of the construction site for the unfortunate incident.
He observed that, those building did not adhere to the safety standards because they don’t have the necessary permit from the district assembly.
Hon. Alhassan who commiserated with the family has vowed to bring the culprits to book.
