Vice Chairman of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah, has assured fans that the team is fully committed to restoring national pride as they prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The senior national team has faced intense criticism following their disappointing performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they failed to secure a single victory and finished at the bottom of their group.
With only two wins recorded in 2024, the Black Stars are now set to begin their 2025 campaign with crucial qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the matches, Appiah—who played a pivotal role in Ghana’s historic qualifications for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups—expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination.
“I was proud to see our president [John Mahama] come visit the players yesterday. He gave some words of encouragement, telling them it is not about NDC or NPP, but that the players should play their hearts out,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“From everything that President Mahama told the players, I believe they are determined and ready to make Ghanaians proud against Chad and Madagascar.”
Appiah also called on supporters to turn up in large numbers to rally behind the team, emphasizing the importance of fan support.
“We need the fans to show up in their numbers to support the team. We should come together and support the team, and I believe that the team will surely win.”
The Black Stars will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT. They will then travel to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium.
