Ghana midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru believes the Black Stars can achieve great success under head coach, Otto Addo.
The 45-year-old trainer was reappointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in March on a 34-month contract, with an option for an additional 24 months.
His tenure began well with two consecutive victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.
However, the team has faced challenges in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, with a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw against Niger, leaving Ghana in 3rd place in Group F with just one point.
This is Ghana’s worst start to an AFCON qualifying campaign since 1961, putting their hopes of competing in next year’s tournament in Morocco at risk.
Despite the rough start, Ashimeru has expressed confidence in Addo’s leadership, describing the experience of playing under him as “amazing.”
“It feels really amazing to be able to be called because we have so many players out here in Ghana,” the Anderlecht midfielder told Flashscore.com.
“Working with Otto Addo is something I’ve been waiting for a long time. Having the time to work with him, I can say he’s a good coach and I feel like we have so many things to achieve together. It feels good to work with him,” he added.
The Black Stars will regroup next month for a crucial doubleheader against Sudan.
Ghana will first host the Falcons at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue before travelling to Libya for the return match at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
