Black Stars Technical Team commended after bold decision on Benjamin Asare

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has praised the Black Stars’ technical team for their bold decision to start Benjamin Asare in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Asare earned his maiden call-up to the senior national team following his stellar performances in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

Despite the presence of established goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott, the former Great Olympics shot-stopper was handed a starting role against Chad, where Ghana secured an emphatic 5-0 victory.

The 32-year-old was once again trusted for the crucial encounter against Madagascar at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco on Monday night, helping the Black Stars to a comfortable 3-0 win.

Impressively, Asare kept a clean sheet in both matches, solidifying his credentials as a reliable option between the posts.

Commending the technical team’s decision, the Hearts of Oak Board Member highlighted Asare’s impact, saying, “It was a good decision using Benjamin Asare because he (the coach) has tried all the other goalkeepers, and Asare was able to demonstrate clearly that he is fit for the job,” he told Graphic Sports.

The former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman also emphasized that Asare’s performances underline the quality within the local league.

“He’s made a case for the local players, but we can never be home and dry as far as this competition is concerned until local players are featured prominently.”

With two standout performances, Asare has strengthened his case to become Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper going forward.

The Black Stars, currently leading Group I with 15 points, will now turn their attention to the next round of qualifiers in September, where they will face Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the campaign.
