Black Stars Team Manager, Ameenu Shardow, has backed Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to keep Otto Addo as head coach of the senior national team.
Addo, 49, faced intense calls to step down after failing to lead Ghana to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — marking the first time in 20 years the Black Stars have missed out on the continental showpiece.
Despite a challenging 2024, where the team managed just two wins in 10 matches, the Black Stars made a strong start to 2025.
They secured consecutive victories against Chad and Madagascar during the March international window in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Shardow expressed confidence in Addo’s leadership.
“I know that, with the passage of time, all of us will come to appreciate [Otto Addo’s hard work],” Shardow told Asempa FM in an interview.
“All of us, even though we were on edge, did a good job by keeping him, because he will be a blessing to us for many years to come.”
Shardow also praised Addo’s character and coaching philosophy, highlighting qualities that suggest a bright future.
“He’s young, he’s driven, very passionate, and he’s willing to learn. He’s willing to listen to alternative perspectives.”
Currently, Ghana sits at the top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, three points clear of Comoros, with four matches remaining.
The Black Stars will face Chad and Mali in Matchdays 7 and 8 of the qualifiers in September.
