Ghana football legend Rev. Osei Kofi has expressed his disappointment with the current state of the Black Stars, describing the team as “lifeless” amid their struggles.
His remarks come in light of the team’s poor performance in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
After four matches, the four-time African champions find themselves in third place in Group F, having secured only two points, which puts their chances of participating in the tournament at risk.
Osei Kofi, a two-time AFCON champion, urged football authorities to focus on nurturing the national teams and the Ghana Premier League (GPL) rather than concentrating solely on business interests.
“The Black Stars seem lifeless to me,” he stated in an interview with Graphic Sports.
He further emphasized that, just as only those with legal training can practice law, football administration should be entrusted to those with a thorough understanding of the game.
“Just as only those who have attended law school can practice law, the same principle should apply to football administration.
“Ironically, those currently in charge of our football don’t have a deep understanding of the game; they prioritize the business aspects instead and overlook the GPL and other developmental projects,” he added.
The Black Stars will regroup for their upcoming matches against Angola in Luanda and Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
To secure a spot in the tournament, Ghana will need to win against both Angola and Niger while hoping that Sudan, currently in second place with seven points, loses its upcoming matches against Niger and Angola.
