Former Ghana international Frimpong Manso has urged the Black Stars to adopt a renewed sense of commitment and dedication in their approach to playing for the country.
Manso’s comments follow a series of underwhelming performances by the national team during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. With no wins from four matches, the Black Stars sit in third place in Group F with only two points, putting their AFCON qualification hopes in jeopardy.
Speaking in an interview, Bibiani GoldStars coach Manso stressed that the team needs an attitude overhaul. He also recommended that the coaching staff consider removing players who appear to prioritize their club commitments over national duty.
“The Black Stars need a change of attitude. As it stands, the chances of qualifying for the AFCON are slim, but they will need to change their attitude ahead of the World Cup qualifiers,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
“It is bad to see them under pressure to win games in the final minutes. I know some of them are committed, but those who are lackadaisical must be dropped because these are the same players who will play in the World Cup qualifiers.”
“There must be some drastic changes because some of the players seem to be prioritizing their clubs over the national team,” he added.
Ghana faces Angola away on Friday, November 15, at Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a final home game against Niger at Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
Currently sitting third in Group F, Ghana must win both remaining games and hope Sudan loses to Niger and Angola to secure a spot in AFCON 2025, set to take place in Morocco.
