The senior national football team, the Black Stars, has called on Ghanaians to maintain peace as the country approaches Saturday’s general elections.
In a video shared by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), head coach, Otto Addo and players Gideon Mensah, Kudus Mohammed, and Manaf Nurudeen urged citizens to vote responsibly and uphold democratic values.
Addo emphasized the importance of peace, saying, “I’m calling out for peace and to vote in peace. No matter the outcome, stay peaceful and protect democracy.”
Gideon Mensah echoed this sentiment, reminding Ghanaians of the nation’s core values.
“Let’s remember peace, unity, and values in our country. Exercise patience, and peace, and value each other’s opinions.”
Kudus Mohammed highlighted the shared bond among citizens, stating, “We are all one in the country before and after the election,” and Nurudeen urged citizens to “vote wisely and peacefully.”
The Electoral Commission (EC) commenced the electoral process on Monday, December 2, with a “Special Voting” exercise for essential service providers, including security personnel, journalists, and election officials.
The rest of the country is set to cast their votes on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
