President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has emphasized that player selections for the Black Stars are exclusively handled by the team’s technical staff, led by head coach Otto Addo.
Responding to rumours of external influence on national team call-ups, Okraku, speaking before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports on Monday, made it clear that he does not interfere in the coach’s decisions.
He stated firmly that, any coach expecting him to make player selections would face immediate dismissal.
“If I hire a coach and the coach expects me to select players for him I will fire the coach. I’m repeating myself, if I hire a coach for Ghana and that coach expects me, Kurt to select players for him, that coach will be fired the next day because that is not the kind of coach I and we want to work with.
“Players for the Black Stars are selected by the technical team of the Black Stars led by the current coach Otto Addo. Simple,” he added.
Otto Addo is set to announce his squad soon for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.
