Black Stars must be built in an organic way – John Mahama

-

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has suggested a grassroots strategy to revitalize Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars.

During an address at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Mahama stressed the importance of reviving grassroots football to nurture local talent.

He criticized the current state of the Bukom Arena, describing it as “not fully activated” and pledged to address this issue if his party wins the upcoming December elections.

“We need to bring back inter-school football, the Milo Championships, and the Academicals…to identify and develop talent,” Mahama stated.

He also pointed out that while the Black Stars have talented players, they lack sufficient time to play together as a team.

“They are currently playing as individuals rather than as a cohesive team, which won’t take us far. We need a more organic approach,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to return to action in September for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium.
