Ghana football legend, Mohammed Polo has issued a warning to Mohammed Kudus regarding Black Stars’ number 10 jersey, referencing challenges faced by previous players who wore it.
Kudus was recently assigned the number 10 jersey for the Black Stars’ upcoming matches against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
However, Polo cautioned that the number 10 jersey has a history of bringing difficulties to players, citing Kwadwo Asamoah as a notable example.
Asamoah previously expressed that wearing the jersey brought him unsettling dreams and performance issues.
In an interview with Connect FM, Polo advised Kudus to reconsider wearing the number 10 jersey if he does not feel spiritually prepared to handle the associated challenges.
“We all remember what Kwadwo Asamoah came out to say some time ago about the number 10 shirt,” the 1982 AFCON winner said.
“The dreams he said he was having and all. If Kudus is not strong spiritually, he should just stop wearing the number 10 jersey and go back to his number 20 jersey because there is a lot in that jersey,” he added.
The Black Stars were held to a goalless draw against Sudan in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, subsequently losing 2-0 in the return match.
After four matches, Ghana sits in third place in Group F with two points, while Sudan is in second with seven points and Angola leads with twelve points.
The Black Stars will face Angola away and will host Niger in their final match in November 2024.
