Former Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Francis Oti Akenteng, has called for a review of the compensation packages awarded to members of the Black Stars Management Committee.
Oti Akenteng made these remarks after appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism, where various issues surrounding Ghanaian football were discussed.
It has been reported that each member of the Management Committee received $100,000 after Ghana participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, despite the team exiting early in the tournament.
While Oti Akenteng acknowledged that the committee members deserve to be compensated for their efforts, he questioned the appropriateness of such a large sum.
“If you look at some of their roles, it’s not bad, except that you cannot be paying everyone like I’m hearing—that some people took $100,000 just for being a member of the management committee,” he said.
“Perhaps the person attended just one or two meetings, but because they are a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, they got paid. Yes, they should be remunerated, but not to that extent,” he added.
During the World Cup, the Black Stars managed to secure a victory over South Korea but suffered losses to Portugal and Uruguay, leading to their first-round exit.
