Former Ghana striker Anthony Yeboah has criticized the Black Stars’ management committee following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana’s qualification hopes were dashed after a 1-1 draw with Angola on Friday in their penultimate Group F match.
The Black Stars needed a victory against the Palancas Negras to remain in contention, followed by a win in their final game to secure qualification. However, Niger’s resounding victory over Sudan on Thursday left Ghana with little margin for error, which they ultimately failed to capitalize on.
Reacting to the disappointing outcome in an interview with Happy FM, Yeboah blamed the management committee for ignoring advice from seasoned former players.
“The current management of the Black Stars does not value or act on the advice we, as former players, offer,” said Yeboah, who earned 59 caps for Ghana and scored 29 goals during his illustrious career.
Yeboah lamented the lack of consultation with former players, accusing the leadership of sidelining those with valuable experience and insights.
Ghana now sits at the bottom of Group F with just three points. Even a win against Niger in their final match would be inconsequential, as Sudan, currently in second place, holds an unassailable seven-point lead.
This marks a significant low point for the Black Stars, as it will be the first time in 21 years that Ghana has failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
