Black Stars disappointed to miss AFCON – Stephen Appiah [Audio]

Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Stephen Appiah, has admitted that the team is deeply disappointed after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana, a four-time African champion, endured a frustrating qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of their group with just three points from three draws and three defeats. This disappointing outcome means the Black Stars will miss out on the tournament in Morocco.

Despite the setback, Appiah—who captained Ghana to its first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006—believes the team is eager to redeem itself as they prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Appiah highlighted the team’s commitment and work ethic in training, emphasizing their desire to win both upcoming matches.

Ghana will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 20, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar in their Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, head coach Otto Addo and his squad will conclude their training sessions today ahead of Friday’s crucial clash.
