Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei has confirmed ongoing discussions with head coach Otto Addo on strategies to enhance the performance of Ghana’s senior national team.
The four-time African champions have struggled in recent years, suffering consecutive group-stage exits at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and missing out on qualification for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
Following his appointment to the technical team after Ghana’s AFCON qualification setback, Ofei has been working closely with technical advisor Winfried Schaefer and Otto Addo to identify key areas for improvement.
“Yeah, it’s about trying to improve on every level. Like I said before, both on and off the pitch, we’ve identified areas where we need improvement, and it’s something we’ve been actively discussing,” he said.
He emphasized the team’s dedication to regaining form and achieving success.
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to address any shortcomings and refine our approach. We’re collaborating with experienced professionals and a determined head coach who is hungry to achieve success—most importantly, qualifying for the World Cup.”
Ofei also underscored the importance of fan support in the team’s revival.
“It’s not just about the team; off the pitch, we need to regain the fans’ trust and bring back the love. That comes through performances and winning games. At this level, every team wants to qualify, so it’s up to us to deliver when it matters most.”
Before joining the senior team, Ofei led the Black Satellites to victory at the African Games in Accra and guided them to U-20 AFCON qualification.
The Black Stars will regroup later this month as they prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
