Former Ghana striker Augustine Ahinful has insisted that the Black Stars must secure victory in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Following their shocking failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, the national team is shifting focus to the World Cup qualifiers.
The four-time African champions will host Chad in a crucial Matchday 5 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 20, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
Reflecting on the team’s struggles in 2024, Ahinful stressed the importance of a strong performance.
“Black Stars cannot afford to lose against Chad on Friday,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
Following the Chad encounter, Ghana will travel to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday, March 24, for their Matchday 6 fixture.
Having previously featured in the 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, Brazil, and Qatar, the Black Stars are determined to claim vital points and strengthen their position in Group I as they push for qualification to the 2026 tournament, set to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
