The SAS Finance Group has written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), requesting invitations be extended to the 21 players of the Black Satellites’ 2009 U-20 World Cup winning team for the collection of their investment cheques.
This follows the maturity of the 15-year investment made on behalf of the players by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on January 4, 2025.
The letter, addressed to the General Secretary of the GFA and copied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, confirmed that a total of GH₵210,000 was invested on behalf of the 21 players, with each player receiving GH₵10,000 in 2009.
SAS confirmed that the investment has matured and that the players can collect their cheques from their office in Accra starting January 8, 2025.
“To collect their cheques, players must present a valid Ghana Card for identification purposes. If a player is unable to collect their cheque personally, they can authorize a third party to do so by presenting a notarized Power of Attorney,” SAS added.
The SAS Office is located on the 14th floor of the World Trade Centre, Independence Avenue, Accra.
The investment package also included an annual insurance cover for each player to cater for life and health-related expenses over the 15-year period.
The Black Satellites’ 2009 U-20 World Cup win remains a historic achievement, marking Ghana’s first and only U-20 World Cup title to date.
