Former Great Olympics and Karela United head coach, Bismark Kobby Mensah, has refused to single out Otto Addo for blame over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
For the first time in two decades, Ghana will miss out on Africa’s premier football tournament after finishing last in Group F with just three points from six matches.
Despite growing public calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal due to the team’s poor performances, Kobby Mensah believes the 47-year-old coach should not bear sole responsibility for the setback.
“As a Ghanaian who has followed the Black Stars, I wouldn’t want to blame Otto Addo because there are a lot of things surrounding the team,” he told Asempa FM.
“If we do not get the right results, I think we need to blame everyone associated with the Black Stars, not only Otto Addo,” he added.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to decide on Otto Addo’s future following a marathon meeting with the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach last week.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify has sparked widespread debate, with fans and analysts questioning the team’s management and performance on and off the field.
