Renowned Ghanaian technology entrepreneur and founder of theSOFTtribe, Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse, who passed away on September 16, was laid to rest on November 2.
Herman Chinery-Hesse, one of Africa’s most influential figures in technology, died on Monday, September 16, 2024, from cardiac arrest.
He leaves behind a remarkable legacy in advancing technology across the continent.
“Herman Chinery-Hesse was born on November 18, 1963, in Dublin, Ireland, into a distinguished Ghanaian family with a rich tradition of public service. His father, Lebrecht James Chinery-Hesse, was a prominent legal draftsman, while his mother, Mary Akuokor Chinery-Hesse (née Blay), was a seasoned diplomat and the first woman to attain the rank of Under Secretary-General at the United Nations,” the funeral brochure noted.
“Raised in Ghana, Herman spent his early years in Jamestown with his extended family, fostering a deep connection to his heritage. He began his education at Ridge Church School and later attended Mfantsipim School, where he laid the groundwork for his future in technology and entrepreneurship.”
In 1982, Herman moved to the United States, where he completed high school at Westlake High School in Texas.
He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from Texas State University, where he was introduced to the transformative potential of technology.
After a brief period in the UK, Herman made the pivotal decision to return to Ghana, aiming to empower African businesses through innovative technology solutions.
