Nigerian act, Burna Boy was adjudged the ‘Best International Act’ at the 2019 BET Awards which was held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, United States of America, over the weekend.
He won in a category that had top acts such as AKA from South Africa, Dave in the United Kingdom (UK), France’s Dosseh, Mr Eazi, the Nigerian and Giggs who hails from the UK too.
Moments after he was crowned the winner, his mum walked to the podium to collect the award on his behalf.

Her speech, which championed Africa, was clear, short and concise but was applauded by many who gathered in the auditorium.
She asked the black community present in the hall to remember “they were Africans before they became anything else” because “it is the constituency we got noticed for in the first place.”

Talking about Burna Boy, she jokingly tagged him the most restless person she has ever met for missing his acceptance speech.
