Berekum Chelsea have booked their place in the semifinals of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup after edging past Bechem United in a closely contested quarterfinal clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Saturday, March 29.
A solitary strike from Stephen Amankona in the 30th minute proved to be the difference, as Chelsea held on to secure a hard-fought victory and progress to the last four.
Both teams entered the fixture in high spirits, having successfully navigated the Round of 16. Chelsea had cruised past Northern City with a commanding 4-1 victory, while Bechem United needed penalties to overcome Techiman Liberty Youth.
The quarterfinal showdown lived up to expectations, with Chelsea finding the breakthrough before the half-hour mark through their leading scorer, Amankona. Bechem United pushed for an equalizer before the break but struggled to break down Chelsea’s resolute defense.
The intensity continued in the second half, with both sides creating chances. Bechem United came close on multiple occasions, but Chelsea’s goalkeeper stood firm to preserve the narrow lead.
With this victory, Berekum Chelsea now await the winner of the upcoming clash between Asante Kotoko and True Democracy, set to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday at 19:00 GMT.
