Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has strongly criticized the government, accusing it of implementing economic policies that have worsened hardships for Ghanaians.
During a campaign tour in the Volta Region alongside the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ofosu Ampofo likened the administration’s economic strategies to “weapons of mass destruction,” arguing that they have undermined the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
He encouraged voters to back the NDC in the upcoming elections, assuring them that an NDC-led government would prioritize policies to improve economic conditions across the country.
“President Akufo-Addo has become a weapon of mass destruction. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s economic policies have turned into weapons of mass destruction, causing untold casualties,” he declared.
“They have destroyed banks, community banks, and small microfinance companies. Even Paa Kwasi’s bank, which served women and aspiring entrepreneurs, has been wiped out.”
Ofosu Ampofo further highlighted the closure of Groupe Nduom’s businesses, attributing the loss of 3,000 jobs to these policies.
“This is why Bawumia’s economic policies are like weapons of mass destruction, and we cannot allow him to deceive Ghanaians again,” he stated.
“Elections are about trusting leaders who deliver on their promises. Today, Dr. Bawumia has distanced himself from the Economic Management Team, now focusing on digitization. Yesterday, he even suggested President Mahama should not return to the presidency.”
“Let me remind Dr. Bawumia that the backbone of our digital infrastructure—the fibre optics and Accra Digital Centre—was laid down by John Dramani Mahama. What have you brought to the table?”
