Bawumia would’ve conceded defeat on election night if… – Omane Boamah

-

The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has lauded his party’s advanced collation system, asserting its superiority over that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Dr. Omane Boamah, the concession speech delivered by NPP flagbearer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following his party’s defeat in the December 7, 2024, general election, could have come earlier if the NPP had a more efficient collation system like the NDC’s.

“With over 37,000 presidential results from polling stations collated by our National Elections and IT Directorate well before 10 p.m. on election night, Bawumia was at a paltry 41.21%. Why would he not concede the following day?” Dr. Omane Boamah stated in a Facebook post on Friday, December 27, 2024.

He added, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia actually delayed! He could have conceded that night IF AND ONLY IF the NPP collation system was as fast as ours.”

Vice President Bawumia officially conceded defeat to President-elect John Dramani Mahama on Sunday, December 8, 2024, approximately 15 hours after polls closed.

The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, later declared the results, confirming that John Dramani Mahama of the NDC won with 56.55% of the total valid votes, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 41.61%.

In addition to the presidential victory, the NDC also achieved a commanding majority in the parliamentary elections.
