The plan of the Bawumia-led government is to construct not less than 5,000 schools when elected in the December 7 election.
These were the words of Kwesimintsim MP and the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Education manifesto, Dr Prince Armah on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Monday.
Dr Armah explained that, the policy intervention will focus on private sector participation to build more infrastructure to enhance education.
“The plan is to construct not less Than 5,000 schools within the first term of Dr Bawumia because he wants to focus on private sector participation for the construction so we don’t need to have the bulk money to begin.
“NPP is very aspirational; we are nowhere near we want to get education to. We are the pace setters when it comes to social intervention policies. We focus on accessibility, equity at all levels,” he said.
The NPP flagbearer in April 2024 during a meeting with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) pledged to leverage the private sector and an enhanced credit system to expand educational infrastructure to support teaching and non-teaching staff to improve the quality of education.
Under this proposed funding arrangement, Dr. Bawumia said the private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure, such as dormitories and classrooms, which the government will rent over a period of years and eventually own.
