The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to provide modern solar-powered fishing canoes to Ghanaian fisher folks as a way to decrease their reliance on premix fuel.
This promise was made during a stakeholders engagement with fisher folks and other groups in Mankesim, part of his campaign tour in the Central Region.
Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the challenges that persist with premix fuel, despite his previous efforts as Vice President to establish premix automation centers, including three in the Mfantseman Constituency alone.
He emphasized that it is time to find a lasting solution to the ongoing issues with premix dependency.
To this end, he announced that discussions are already underway to transition to solar-powered canoes, enabling the fishing community to work without the constant concern of fuel shortages.
In support of Bawumia’s vision, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin, highlighted the significant contributions of the NPP government to the Central Region, such as the construction of landing beaches and sea defense projects.
He urged the constituents to evaluate candidates based on their development projects rather than their regional origins.
Also, Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ophelia Mensah Hayford, reassured the fisher folks that Dr. Bawumia would fulfill his promises and encouraged them to vote for him in the upcoming presidential elections, as well as for her re-election on December 7.
