New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reacted to the death of Akua Donkor, the 2024 presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
In a tribute on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged Madam Donkor’s contributions to Ghana’s democracy.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the GFP.
“I write to commiserate with the family and political party of Madam Akua Donkor, who until her death was the 2024 presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party. She played her part in consolidating our democracy. May the soul of Madam Akua Donkor rest in peace,” he mourned.
Akua Donkor was one of the 13 candidates cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the December 7, 2024, presidential elections.
She passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, after a short illness.
Following her death, the EC has suspended the printing of ballot papers for the presidential election and issued a 10-day ultimatum for the GFP to present another candidate.
