Bawumia-led-government to promote responsible small-scale mining – NAPO

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has assured Ghanaians that a future government led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will not ban small-scale mining.

During a campaign rally in the Manso Adubia constituency, Ashanti Region, on Tuesday, October 8, NAPO emphasized the party’s commitment to supporting small-scale miners by promoting responsible mining practices and helping them expand their operations.

He reassured the audience, including community members and party supporters, that the NPP acknowledges the vital role small-scale mining plays in the livelihoods of many Ghanaians and its contribution to the national economy.

NAPO clarified that the NPP’s focus is on distinguishing responsible, regulated small-scale mining from the harmful practices of illegal mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”

He reiterated that the next NPP administration will prioritize providing miners with the resources and education needed to operate within the law while preserving the environment.

As part of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign promises, NAPO highlighted that measures will be introduced to promote responsible mining. These initiatives will aim to equip miners with the tools and knowledge to engage in eco-friendly practices and comply with regulations.

He further urged miners to collaborate with the government in combating illegal mining and protecting the nation’s natural resources, expressing confidence that with the right support, small-scale miners can thrive and contribute to Ghana’s development.

“A Dr. Bawumia-led government will promote mining, but it will be done responsibly. We cannot stop mining, but we will ensure that it doesn’t destroy our water bodies and forests. We will provide Ghanaians with the equipment needed for responsible mining,” NAPO assured.
