Bawumia clarifies origin of DRIP initiative

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted claims by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament that they contributed to the purchase of equipment for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).

The government recently delivered excavators and other earthmoving machinery under the DRIP initiative to enhance road infrastructure across the country.

Certain Members of Parliament have suggested that the project was financed through their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

However, during an address at the Awubia Festival in Awutu Bereku, Awutu Senya West, Dr. Bawumia clarified that Parliament had no involvement in the project’s execution.

He explained that, the idea for the project originated from a committee he chaired, known as the Critical Roads Committee, where he proposed acquiring equipment for road construction in every district.

“This was an initiative from the committee I chaired,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized.

“We developed the concept, secured the funding, and implemented it independently of Parliament. No parliamentary approval was sought, so no one should falsely claim credit for the equipment that has been distributed to all districts across the country.”

“This idea was ours, and I ensured that the necessary equipment was procured and delivered to every district in Ghana. So, let no one spread falsehoods about their involvement,” he stressed.
