Bawku crisis: Support Otumfuo’s peace process – Mahama Ayariga appeals to residents

-

The Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has appealed to residents of Bawku and its environs to exercise restraint and allow the peace process, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to reach its logical conclusion.

His comments follow recent violent clashes between youth and security agencies in the area, which have led to rising tensions and concern among the public.

In a press statement issued on Friday, 11 April, the Majority Leader traced the origins of the peace initiative to the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who referred the matter to Otumfuo for mediation.

He further noted that the current President, John Mahama, upon assuming office in January 2025, requested Otumfuo to continue with the process.

“I support President John Dramani Mahama’s decision for very good reasons,” Ayariga said.

Emphasising the need for calm, the MP urged all parties to support the peace-building efforts.

“I therefore once again appeal to everyone to exercise restraint and allow the peace process led by Otumfuo to come to its logical conclusion,” he stated.

He stressed the importance of patience in such a delicate situation that demands collective responsibility.

Mr Ayariga also appealed to residents to positively engage with law enforcement officers.

He called on the public to avoid confrontations and cooperate with security personnel to preserve lives and ensure public order.

“I also appeal to everyone to maintain cordial relations with the law enforcement agencies to protect lives in the interim,” he added.
