The Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces have assured the public of enhanced measures to stabilize the region in response to escalating violence in Bawku and on the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale highway.
Following recent clashes in Bawku after the return of a rival chief and an ambush that claimed eight lives, security forces are intensifying their presence in the affected areas.
The longstanding conflict in Bawku, rooted in chieftaincy disputes, reignited with the return of Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival chief who had been in exile.
His reappearance triggered renewed tensions between factions, resulting in violent confrontations and multiple casualties.
As the conflict spilled over, armed men set up roadblocks along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, particularly near Gbimsi, targeting travellers from the Bawku area.
These attacks tragically led to the deaths of eight individuals and the destruction of several vehicles.
In a statement, security agencies confirmed the deployment of joint police and military personnel to manage the situation in Bawku and secure the Bolgatanga-Walewale-Tamale highway.
Their efforts focus on maintaining law and order, ensuring traveller safety, and managing traffic along the route.
The security forces have urged the public to remain calm, reassuring citizens that comprehensive measures are underway to restore peace and protect lives in the affected areas.
