Battor chief wades into ‘daughter of a murderer’ remark

The Mankrado of Battor, Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII, has charged the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to swiftly identify and punish the Member of Parliament (MP) who made a derogatory statement about Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

Togbe Xevi VII has joined the widespread condemnation of the attack, appealing to Speaker Bagbin to use the standing orders to punish the individual as a deterrent to others.

“We believe in you; prove your leadership and bring that person to justice so that this never happens again,” Togbe Borbordzi said during a press conference at Ashaiman.

The alleged remark was heard while Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 4.

A voice was captured saying, “Doctor of a murderer, sit down,” seemingly directed at Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.

The Majority Leader, appearing visibly shocked, paused his speech and turned around in apparent disapproval.

However, the chief has said such comments should not be encouraged, as members of both the NDC and the NPP are related.

He admonished parliamentarians not to instigate misunderstandings among the public while privately maintaining friendly relations with their colleagues.

“NDC and NPP share one father and one mother; they should not provoke the people outside and then go behind the scenes to work together,” he said.

Additionally, the chiefs of Anlo have condemned the act and called on the Speaker to take action or risk the chiefs deciding what steps to take themselves.

Meanwhile, Damongo MP Samuel Abu Jinapor, who was accused of making the remark, has disassociated himself from it.
