The Ag. Director of Operations for National Ambulance Service, Dr. Foster Ansong Bridjan has suggested that, the Ghana Education Service (GES) should include Basic Life Support (BSL) skills in the curriculum of the country’s educational system.
He stated this while responding to the stabbing of a form three student at the O’Reilly Senior High School in Accra.
He indicated that, the study of BSL in schools would go a long way to save lives.
“It is something every Ghanaian, every school child needs to know, how to administer basic life support skills or Techniques.
The Ghana Education Service should include it as part of the curriculum, if possible” he pleaded.
According to him, the introduction of BLS and other first aid techniques will equip the school children in terms of life savings emergencies that require especially resuscitation, bleeding control and others.
As part of the efforts to educate and train the general public on the BLS skills, the training department of National Ambulance Service has already began training schools and institutions on how to apply these techniques in their campus, homes and work place when the need arises.
The National Ambulance Service which was established in 2004, has gone through massive transformation under their hard working Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah who spearheaded the transformation of the Service from seven pilot stations to the current number of 297) stations across the country.
