Political activist and lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has issued a public apology to the Appointments Committee of Parliament following his bribery allegation.
Barker-Vormawor appeared before the Committee on Wednesday with his legal team, led by Nana Ato Dadzie.
In his address, Mr. Dadzie clarified that the controversial comments made by Barker-Vormawor were not meant to insult or undermine the Committee.
“Mr. Chairman, we apologize for the post we made, which was intended for something else,” Mr. Dadzie explained. He suggested that some posts believed to be linked to the bribery allegation did not, in fact, originate from Barker-Vormawor.
The social media post in question, which attracted mixed reactions, read: “So all the monies the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic.”
The cryptic nature of the statement, combined with a direct mention of the Appointments Committee, sparked public speculation.
However, when he appeared before the Committee, Barker-Vormawor distanced himself from the words, claiming that the post appeared on an NPP Project Bureau Facebook account and he did not know the source.
The activist also expressed willingness to delete the post and issue a disclaimer to clear up any confusion.
