An Accra Circuit Court
has sentenced a barber to a fine of GH¢4,800.00 for defrauding.
Abu-N-Noula Wahid, 34, was said to have
swindled eight persons of GH¢20,980.00 under the pretext of securing them
accommodation.
He admitted the offence and was sentenced
accordingly.
In default, he would serve a seven-month-jail
term.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel
Ohene-Agyei, told the Court presided over by Mrs Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye
that the complainants were Abdul Mumin Karim, teacher, Abubakari Baba, phone
repairer, Salifu Habib, driver and Kabi Kasim, trader.
The others were Abdul Aziz Hassan Baburonon,
an auto mechanic, Lawrence Godu, printing press attendant, Woelinam Kwame
Dziewornu Norvor, clearing agent and Faisal Yakubu, hardware engineer.
He said the convict lived at Accra New Town
and that between February and March, he defrauded them.
Chief Inspector Ohene-Agyei said on March 31,
Karim caused his arrest and told the Kotobabi Police that on March 4, Wahid
collected GH¢2,000.00 from him under the pretext of renting him a chamber and a
hall apartment.
He later found out that he had no
accommodation, the prosecution added.
The Prosecution said the rest on hearing of
his arrest rushed to the police station and corroborated the story that Wahid
wanted to rent the said apartment to all of them at different rent fees by
taking monies ranging from GH¢1,500.00 to GH¢3,600.00.
Convict in his caution statement confessed to
the crime and after investigations, he was arraigned.
He was therefore ordered to pay 400 penalty units equivalent to GH¢4,800.00.
